Using 2 versions of desktop pro on one computer

I would like to work from one home computer to access two different computers at remote locations. One is a computer having a single user desktop pro and the other is a server hosting files used by a 3 user desktop pro. Can I do that? Can I install a single user version of desktop pro as well as a 3 user version of desktop pro on the same (home) computer?

Let me help share information about installing QuickBooks, @astronaut.

As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to install QuickBooks Desktop with the same version and year on one computer. The idea behind is that QuickBooks used the same files and default folder location upon installation.

But don't worry, you can install QuickBooks Desktop Pro and work with your company file even in a remote location. It's just that you'll have to turn on multi-user mode while working with a remotely hosted file. I'm adding the following articles below to learn more:

@astronaut

You don't need to install QB Desktop on your machine.

For your first client (single user), utilize a remote desktop app

For your second client, setup a simple private cloud solution. Contact us in private for assistance.

@JonpriL

Thank you for your reply.

But there won't be a multi-user mode in a single user Desktop Pro, will there? This will work for a 3 user remote program but not for a single user remote program. Or does the single user program have a special feature to permit remote access?

Hi, astronaut. Allow me to step in and provide additional information about how multi and single-user works in QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks provides you with two ways to access your company file, Single-user, and Multi-user mode. The Single-user mode allows only one user to access a company file at a time whereas the multi-user mode allows multiple users to access a company file.

The single-user program doesn't have a special feature to permit remote access. As referenced by my peer above, you'll need to turn on multi-user mode so you can work with your company file even in a remote location.

Additionally, you might want to visit this link: Features available and tasks you can perform in single or multi-user mode. This will provide you with lists of activities that can be performed in single or multi-user mode.

Keep me posted if there's anything else I can help you with. I'm more than willing to lend you a hand.

Thank you. I get it now. So, even though it is a single user program, it does have a multi-user mode. However, it won't allow more than one user to simultaneously use the program. The multi-user mode has to be on for a remote computer to access it.
