We updated to enterprise 20 I am not able to change from single user to multi user

We can get your multi-user environment setup, Lynnep.

Below are the steps for you to review to make sure the multi-user setup is properly configured. If you missed out a step, please follow the instruction to fix the issue with the multi-user mode.

If it's okay with you to uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks, please follow the instructions in the Step 1 & 2. If not, you can skip these parts. Then, we have to set up the folder permissions, admin rights, and turn on hosting. Before doing these, please make sure to save a backup copy of your company file.

Step 1: This is how to uninstall the QuickBooks Desktop software:

  1. Press the Windows icon on your keyboard and search for Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  2. Select the version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Select Uninstall/Change then follow the instructions.

Step 2: Download and install the QuickBooks Desktop hub. During the installation, make sure to select "I'll be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer, AND I'll be storing..." if you want the full version of QuickBooks Desktop on your server computer. Or, if you just want your server computer to host your files, select "I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer..." Then, restore your company file.

If you want to keep your files on a mapped network drive, follow the steps to map the drive.

Step 3: Follow the steps to set up folder permissions on your server computer. Make sure the folder holding your company files has permission to be on your network.

Step 4: If you followed Step 2, QuickBooks also installs QuickBooks Database Server Manager on your server computer. This tool lets you share your company files with other computers over your network. If not, please click on the hyperlinked on how to install QuickBooks Database Server Manager.

Step 5: Make sure the user account you use to sign in to your server computer has Windows admin rights

Step 6After you install the Database Server Manager, follow the steps and use it to scan the folder holding your company files.

Step 7: Once everything is set up, all you need to do is turn on multi-user access on your server computer. Your server computer should be the only computer with this feature turned on.

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to the File menu and hover over Utilities.
  2. Select Host Multi-User Access. Then select Yes to confirm.

You can now host your company files over your network.

When you want to access your multi-user network, sign in as a user with admin rights on your server computer and workstations.
