I can see the significance of running the Project Profitability report when reviewing your income and expenses, @youngamyyoung. Let me share some steps to help you select the bottom number again and display the information you need.
Upon checking my sample QuickBooks account, I can still select the Net Income amount on the report. Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to see if the issue is related to cache build-up.
First, try opening your account in a private browsing window. This will help us identify if accumulated cache on your regular browser is causing the problem and fix it.
Use either of these keyboard shortcuts to access this mode:
If it works, go back to your main browser and clear its cache. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers as an alternative.
Additionally, QuickBooks allows you to customize reports to display the specific information you need for your business.
If you have any more questions about running the Project Profitability report, don’t hesitate to ask. I'm always here to help.
Yes that's exactly what we used to do, go to projects, select the project in question, select "project profitability" run report then select income and it breaks it all out then we export to Excel. I am not able to select income for a breakdown anymore, neither is my book keeper. We use MacBooks, not sure that would matter.
ALSO Labor / wages don't show on the profitability report at the project / job level reports any longer. This is very frustrating, are these reports coming back at the project level? The whole reason we use the more expensive platform is for "projects". This is quite disappointing.
I understand how it feels when you're unable to view the wages report on your profitability report, youngamyyoung. Let me walk you through the process to resolve this issue.
Upon checking on our end, there are no reported cases where clicking on the Net Income amount doesn't open a breakdown of income and expense transactions, including the payroll wages and labor costs.
If payroll wages and labor costs are missing from the Project Profitability report under Payroll Expenses, please ensure that paychecks are correctly allocated to the project. Then, follow these steps to run the project profitability report once again:
In the meantime, you can run Profit and Loss Detail report and filter to that project.

We tried your suggestions of clearing cache and using an incognito window but that did not work. Please fix this in the software! We need to be able to click the "total expenses" and the "net income" to drill down and see the transaction details. We see that we can click the individual expense categories that sum up to the total expenses, but there are too many projects and too many categories for us to go through each of those and have timely reporting.
Thank goodness someone else is irritated by this - they made me feel like I was crazy and the reports were there I just wasn't doing it right! I literally thought it was me and gave up and we now have to go to the report area to customize a P&L! The whole reason I pay for the online version upgraded package was to get project reports and project tools. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT, I know I'm not crazy now!!!
Having access to detailed transaction reports quickly, especially when managing multiple projects is crucial, jktr.
