Why do I have to request a verification code every single time I log in?

Your account's security is our top priority, carl-simmons.

Let me provide some clarification on the verification process in QuickBooks.

The reason why you're being asked to verify your account upon every single log-in is that the Two-Step Authentication has been enabled on your account.

To disable this option, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Intuit Online Account management portal.
  2. Navigate to the Security tab. Click Turn Off to expand the Two-step verification section.
  3. Select Turn Off.
  4. Enter the one-time passcode you received and select Continue.

You can check out this article for more guidance: How do I Enable or Disable the op-in Two-Step Verification? Please know that this article is for QuickBooks Online but it also applicable for QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Once this feature is disabled, you will only be asked to verify your account when you log in from a new device (PC or mobile), a new browser, or when you clear or reset your current browser's cached data.

Please know that you can always reach me out here in the Community for all your QuickBooks needs. Thanks for dropping by.

OK. Doesn't explain why it's literally the only site that demands two steps every single time you log in (unlike Amazon, et multi al.), but at least it's fixed. Thanks.

This is already off on my account.  This all of a sudden started on my work computer which I use more often than any other device.  I did the clear cache too.  How do I get the annoying 2 step shut off?

Why do I have to request a verification code every single time I log in?

The 2 step authorization is turned off in my account settings, but if i try to login to Quickbooks Online using FIREFOX, it asks for 2 set authorization every single time. It wont ask for 2 step authorization if i login to Quickbooks Online using Google Chrome though. That really sucks!!! I mean, I pay Quickbooks Online a TON of money, and they cant even make their website work properly in Firefox? Totally messed up. Every other website works fine with Firefox, and i dont even have to pay them anything.

Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, KCKirk3. I appreciate your detailed information.

Since you have your Two-step verification setting turned off and it's not recognizing that while trying to sign in using Mozilla Firefox, I'd recommend checking the browser that's presenting this issue.

It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and check to see if you're able to sign in properly with the settings you have in place on your account.

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If you're able to sign in normally while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by your browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.

In the event it continues occurring while using incognito, you'll initially want to try using our browser health checkup tool. QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an older version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on Mozilla Firefox's website.

In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it continues happening on other devices and/or internet connections, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.

  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely Friday!
