Anyone having issues with going to reconcile the next month and QB showing previous month not finished when you have finished it?

I've got you covered about rectifying previous reconciliation in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac, @Nodie. This leads us to continue reconciling your current month and keep your statements accurate.

If the application prompts you with the above message, this means that a transaction from your previous reconciliation has been unreconciled. In this, we can go over to that month to re-reconcile this. But before that, please make sure to create a backup of your file to reinstate your accounting data if you ever run into a problem with it. Then, proceed with the steps below:

  1. Go to the Banking menu, and select Reconcile.
  2. From there, select the Account where you want to reconcile.
  3. Enter the information from your Statement in the Ending balance field and the Ending date.
  4. On the Reconcile screen, put a checkmark on the unreconciled transactions. Make sure the difference is zero.
  5. Select the Reconcile button.

After that, you can proceed to your next month's reconciliation to keep your account balanced. Once done, you can review the Previous Reconciliation Detail Report which should show the same data.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further queries about reconciliation. I'm here to assist you round the clock with any assistance you may require.

It's done this the last 2 months but never before. I don't think anything has been unchecked to throw it off. I printed a copy and then closed the qB when I went to do the next month it showed I had not finished the previous month. Can't figure out what's causing this.

Thanks for returning to this thread, Nodie. Let's get your reconciliation sorted out promptly.

To start, let's check the Audit trail report to see if there are unreconciled entries or if there are new transactions added within the previous months. It might be the reason why the previous months appear to be unreconciled.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports, then select Reports Center.
  2. On the left corner of your screen, double click Audit trail.
  3. Check for any changes with your reconciliation data.

However, if there's no trace on the Audit trail, we can Verify and Rebuild your data. To confirm and fix any possible issues in your company file.

To Verify your data:

  1. Select File, then click Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data, then hit OK to close all windows. If there's a “Your data has failed the integrity check” notification, this means that you need to rebuild your data file. However, if none, you’re done.

Meanwhile, you can rebuild your company file to fix any errors or data damage found. To do so, we can follow the steps below:

  1. Click File, then select Utilities.
  2. Choose Rebuild Data. Then, hit OK to close all windows.
  3. QuickBooks will ask you to make a backup before rebuilding your company file. Click OK if you don’t want to do a backup. Select Cancel to continue rebuilding your company file.
    1. If you haven't specified any backup preferences, QuickBooks will prompt you to update them. Select Backup Preferences and modify as needed, then hit OK.
    2. Once done, choose Show in Finder to locate the backup or click OK if you’re done.
  4. Once the rebuilding is finished, select OK.
