Bank Reconcilition

Hello,

One of my first times doing a bank reconciliation, and I accidentally went into 'Record Deposit' to record the deposits from my bank statement. I should have started in my 'Reconcile' window to record those deposits. Now when I go to reconcile, those deposits are showing up (makes sense), but can I reverse those recorded deposits and be able to reconcile them like I need to?

Bank Reconcilition

You don't have to worry, even if this is one of your first times doing a bank reconciliation, JM. I'll be here to guide you through the process, ensuring you understand and feel confident as you manage those deposits and proceed with reconciling your accounts.

Since you mentioned the "Record Deposit" option used in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), I'll share the steps for this. Moreover, it's not possible to record deposits from the Reconcile window.

If the deposits are not supposed to be included in the reconciliation process, you can unselect them from the reconciliation window and begin reconciling. Here's how:

  1. Go to Banking and pick Reconcile.

  2. Select the Account you want to reconcile, then tap Continue.

  3. In the Deposit and Credits Section, uncheck the deposits.
  4. Click the Reconcile Now button to start reconciling.

However, if you want to reverse these deposits, please refer to the steps below:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select Report Center.
  2. Click the Banking section, then find the Deposit Detail report.
  3. Hit Run.
  4. Locate and open the deposit you want to delete.
  5. Right-click and hit Delete deposit, then tap OK.

For QuickBooks Online (QBO), you may refer to these articles on how to delete a bank deposit and reconcile:

I’m glad I could walk through this workflow together. Remember, even though this might be your first time, you’ve got everything you need to handle it confidently. By carefully reviewing and managing your deposits and following the instructions for reconciliation, you’re setting yourself up for accurate and organized financial records. If you need anything else, simply add a reply below, and I'll get back to you, JM.
