You are never too late, @ranual,
The cloud service shared by our colleague is an app that allows you to access data in your Desktop computer. This way you'll be able to work while away from your desk.
When looking for third-party hosting services, you can work with a local IT guy or have someone recommend an app for you.
We also have another channel for Intuit Developers, where you can find engineers who can recommend third-party applications for you to use. Here's the link to the website: Intuit Developers Community.

Hello Jen_D,
Thank you for this information. I AM the local IT guy and have been setting up Quickbooks on a remote desktop server like Citrix and Microsoft RDS for many years. I host the server in my own datacenter and develop a RemoteApp or CitrixRemoteApp that you run on a portable computer from anywhere in the world. It also provides the sharing of the Quickbooks file to multiple users who may not be connected to the same network as the QuickBooks server. The App that runs on the mobile device is Microsoft's RDP or a third-party remote desktop app. The QuickBooks desktop is run inside of the RDP session. This solution has worked for me for quite some time and it doesn't require the QuickBooks Desktop App be installed on the desktop computer. In fact, one of the Intuit Partners who offers this solution uses the same technology. I have not run the RDP solution on a mobile device like a smartphone because of the screen size. I have not tried it on a tablet PC or iPad.
I've seen several posts that you can download an app to your Android Table and iPad to access your company file through QuickBooks Online so my question is does this App work with QuickBooks desktop if i am running it in a private cloud or does the app only work with QuickBooks online? If so, where do I download the app to my Tablet or iPad?
Thank you

QBD doesn't support the operating system running on tablet. Assign your server as the host and access your file on tablet by internet connection. You may combine LAN users and mobile users accessing the same company file at the same time in multi user mode.

Fiat Lux,
Thank you for your input. However, your response is incomplete. With what App do I access my Company File from the Tablet if QBD does not run on the O/S?
You will be running QBD on your browser.
What will be the URL I type in my browser to run Quickbooks Desktop?
Explore the link as I mentioned earlier. Contact us in private should you have any concern
