Question

Can a quickbooks let me run a mobil app or use a tablet in the field and then later sync with my desktop mac at home?

My husband runs service calls. We need him to use a quick book version on a mobil device (tablet, iPad or laptop) in order to make invoices. I need to be able to somehow "sync" with the desktop version of Quickbooks for Mac at home.  How? Help?
Thanks

“I have Quickbooks 2014 on my desktop iMac and wish to have a laptop in the field with NO WAN access. I will need to sync file changes with main computer at office almost daily. Can this be done? (FYI: 1 user & 1 License only) Additionally, I hope to avoid a printer in the field by emailing invoice to customer and they can print their own invoices (Slick, huh?).  I hope this sync-ing can be rectified by someone....SOON!”

If you are using QB for Mac, you cannot sync the files.

Hi, I'm a little late to the conversation.  But, what do you mean by deploy a private cloud?  What software do you run on the tablet to work with Quickbooks Desktop?  If I am on the same network as my QuickBooks server, i should be able to access it from the tablet, but what QB app do I use on the tablet?

You are never too late, @ranual,

The cloud service shared by our colleague is an app that allows you to access data in your Desktop computer. This way you'll be able to work while away from your desk.

When looking for third-party hosting services, you can work with a local IT guy or have someone recommend an app for you.

We also have another channel for Intuit Developers, where you can find engineers who can recommend third-party applications for you to use. Here's the link to the website: Intuit Developers Community.

Reach out back to us if there's anything else you need help with. Have a nice day!

Backup and restore the file all the time.

OR QuickBooks Online may be a good solution for you.  You can login from a Mac, iPad, or iPhone to enter invoices, etc. in the field.  Then, login from the desktop and have the same, updated file.

QuickBooks Online will work if you have internet access in the field.  QuickBooks Mac can be used with WAN access (LogMeIn Hamachi is one way to set up a VPN that can provide WAN access if you have internet access in the field).  Alternatively you can take your entire file with you into the field, modify it as you like, and then when you come back to the office transfer the file back to the original machine.  You have to be really careful if you do this to always know where the "Live" file is - if you enter data in both copies they can't be merged later and you are hosed.   For printless billing Intuit Payment Network may be the way to go and QuickBooks Mac supports that (I think its in 2013).

You can use the bMobile NOW app, found in the Google Play store on Android to do this.  It syncs with your QB file when you have internet access, stores all inventory, customers, etc, allows you to invoice, and then you can send it all back when you have access again.  It requires no internet access while out and about.  It also has the ability to email invoices.

I am thinking about purchasing a RCA premier tablet.  I understand you can download a QB app. from the google store.  Can I do payroll from the field and then transfer to qb on my laptop

Thanks for joining this conversation, @rc116.

You're referring to QuickBooks Online (QBO) app, correct? If so and you've downloaded it on both tablet and laptop, then yes! All you need to do is to sync them by using the same login credentials. This way, you don't need to transfer anything from one QBO to another.

For more information, consider checking out this article: Run payroll from the QuickBooks Online app.

I'm also adding this article for future reference: How to create, run, or process payroll.

Please know that I'm only a few clicks away if you have any other issues or concerns. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great rest of the day!

Unfortuntately there aren't apps, etc. that sync with QB for Mac like there are for the PC version or QB Online.

@larry11_2 and @lindak1119

One of the easiest ways to share the file is Multiuser Mode. Install the server app on the primary computer, in my case the laptop, and select the shared file. Do your work during the day on the laptop, in the evening logout of QB on the laptop and launch the server app. Launch QB on the desktop and access the shared file.
