Can I add a savings account already in my COA to Dashboard without connecting the account to online banking?

As stated above, I am trying to add a non-connected savings account to my dashboard "tiles" as it is currently not on my dashboard. I do not want to connect this savings account to online banking. Is there a way to do just create a tile on my dashboard so I can see it with my other accounts?

Can I add a savings account already in my COA to Dashboard without connecting the account to online banking?

Hello there, mich5428.

I would like to provide some clarification regarding the bank accounts that appear on both the Dashboard and Bank Transactions page.

The bank accounts that you see on the Dashboard include all accounts from your Chart of Accounts, regardless of whether they were created manually or connected to online banking.

On the other hand, the Bank Transactions page only shows bank accounts that are connected to online banking.

Therefore, you are correct that if your bank account is not linked to online banking, it won't appear in the tiles on the Bank transaction page.

To ensure hassle-free reconciliation of your account in the future, you may refer to our article on the best practices for the reconciliation workflow in QuickBooks. It also guides how to overcome challenges during the reconciliation process.

If you have any further concerns regarding the Dashboard or Bank transactions page, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm always available to help you out!

Can I add a savings account already in my COA to Dashboard without connecting the account to online banking?

Glad to have you join the Community, mich5428. I'm here to make sure you'll be able to add your savings account to the Bank Accounts section in your Dashboard and manage it accordingly.

In QuickBooks Online, bank accounts from your Chart of accounts are automatically displayed in the Bank Accounts tile in the Dashboard. One possible factor why you're unable to see your savings account is that it may not be under the Bank account type. To check, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Transactions.
  2. Select Chart of accounts.
  3. Locate the savings account and click Edit.
  4. Click the Account Type from the dropdown menu. Check if your savings account is under the Bank account type. If not, let's set it up under that category.
  5. Click Save.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, the account is under Bank account type. But it is still not displayed in the Bank Accounts tile in the Dashboard. I do not have this bank connected  to the QBO account and want to keep it that way. Is that why it's not showing up in the Dashboard?

I appreciate your reply, @mich5428.

I'll ensure you can see your account on the bank tiles on the dashboard in QuickBooks Online.

Yes, you're right, creating accounts from the Chart of Accounts will not make them visible on the tiles on the Bank Transactions page. Otherwise, you'll want to connect the account.

To organize your transactions moving forward, please review this handy article for your guide: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, to ensure that the transactions you've entered in QBO match your bank statements. Check this reference for the detailed process: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

I'm always ready to assist you if you have questions or concerns about managing your bank accounts and transactions. Tag me in your reply, and I'll sprint back into action.

Thank you. So just to be clear, the only way to make the bank account visible on the tiles on the Bank Transactions page is to connect the account to QBO?

Let me chime in and further clarify things for you, mich.

Yes, you're correct. To make the accounts visible on the tiles on the Bank Transaction page, we have to connect them first. Another way of checking if the accounts listed on the Chart of accounts are connected to online banking is to look for the arrows pointing in the left and right direction. I'll add an image for visual reference.

Afterward, you can categorize your transactions to review downloaded bank and credit card data. If you connect your account, QuickBooks automatically downloads the latest transactions and suggests categories based on how you and other customers categorized similar transactions.

Also, you can speed up the categorizing process of your bank data by creating bank rules.
