Can you tag split deposits?

Thanks for becoming part of the Community, barb-omalley-yah.

After splitting a transaction, you can tag it while editing it.

Here's how:

  1. In your left navigation bar, go to Accounting, then Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account it's in.
  3. Hit its View register option.
  4. Locate the split deposit you want to tag and click it.
  5. Press Edit.
  6. Enter any necessary tags in your Tags section.
  7. When you're finished, select Save and close.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with tags which may come in handy moving forward: Tag transactions

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful day!

Can you tag split deposits?

I am still not clear on tagging split deposits. I have a deposit that has 4 entries. Each one should have a different tag. I entered all 4 tags, but when I checked the account - the amount of the entire deposit was charged to the first tag.

Can you tag split deposits?

Being able to tag split transactions is a great functionality, barb-omalley-yah.

Currently, the option to do so isn't feasible in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you can utilize the Class Tracking feature. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  2. Click Advanced, then select the Categories section.
  3. Select Track classes and check the Warn me when a transaction isn't assigned a class box.
  4. Under Assign classes, select One to entire transaction or One to each row in transaction.
  5. Select Save, then Done.

For more details, please see this article: Turn on Class Tracking in QuickBooks Online.

I'd also recommend sending feedback to our Product Development team. This helps us improve the features in the program.

Additionally, I've added this article that'll help you keep your QuickBooks accounts and bank and credit card statements balanced: Reconcile Workflow.
