Catching up bank reconciliations, I didn't notice QB was putting them in 2021 i/o 2020! Can't find a way to correct the date after saving the reconciliation. Solution?

Yes, I do realize the best solution is to keep up with them monthly. :) But for this batch, I have about 5 months that show 2021 instead of 2020. How can I fix this? Thank you.

Hello, BLinWA.

I'll lay down the solution to help you fix the reconciled transactions.

You'll want to undo those reconciled transactions so you can put them under 2020. Here's how:

  1. Click the Accounting menu.
  2. Go to the Chart of Accounts tab.
  3. Find the reconciled account, then click View register
  4. Find those reconciled transactions for 2021.
  5. Under the "checkmark" column, click the "R" box until it is blank.
  6. Click Save.

Do this until all of the 2021 reconciled transactions have been unreconciled.

You can find more details about the process in this article: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.

Though, if you have an accountant who uses QuickBooks Online Accountant, you can let them undo an entire reconciliation

After unreconciling those transactions, you can start reconciling again under the correct year and period

I'm always here to offer help, so do let me know if you have other questions. I'll provide pointers and some helpful guides about the process in QuickBooks Online.

Is it possible to jump ahead to reconcile a bank account?  I have an account that was last reconciled 11/30/2018 and was told to just start with 1/1/2021.  I'm not sure that's possible even with some adjustments.  Will QuickBooks online allow you to clear checks and transactions for many months or do you have to reconcile each month?

Hi there, @marvomineral.

Let me join in this thread and answer queries in QuickBooks.

Once you finish reconciling an account, you'll see the Last statement ending date. This is the end date of your last reconciliation.

Your current bank statement should start the day after since you can only enter the ending date. That being said, the option to jump a reconciliation period is unavailable in the program.

For your second concern, QuickBooks will allow you to clear your past transactions in the Banking register. However, I won't recommend doing this one since this would affect your entire reconciliation.

If you wish to proceed, then you'll have to subtract the amount of your cleared transactions to your actual ending balance, before entering it in the Reconciliation window. Please take note that this will create a difference between your actual bank statement and the beginning balance in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts
  2. Look for the bank account, then click View register
  3. From there, you'll see the list of transactions. Select the transaction you wanted to clear.
  4. Click the Check field column. Continue clicking until you'll see the C status. T
  5. Select Save when you're done.

To ensure that everything goes well, I'd recommend reconciling the whole period from 11/30/2018 until your required ending date. This will make sure that your QuickBooks records are matched with your bank statement.
