Categorize CC interest charges from bank feed

I have downloaded my Lowes CC bank feed. I have interest charges that I don't know how to categorize. I don't see anything in my current list of categories that makes sense. Perhaps I need to set up a new category in COA for CC interest charges? If so, how? Im new to Quickbooks online. Thank you!

Categorize CC interest charges from bank feed

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community, @Desines. I'd love to help you set up a new category in your COA for CC interest charges in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You'll want to set up an expense account in your chart of accounts. To start, these are the steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon then under Your Company column, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. In the upper right section of your COA, tap New.
  3. Select Expenses for the Account Type.
  4. For the Detail Type, choose Other Business Expense.
  5. In the Name field, enter Interest expense account then hit Save and Close.

For visual reference, you can refer on the screenshot below:

You'll then post your interest charges to your interest expense account.

First, you'll want to enter it as an Expense transaction but not under the Item details. Instead, you'll post it to your Interest Expense account. To begin, here's how:

  1. Go to +New icon.
  2. Under Vendors, select Expense.
  3. Choose a Payee, a Payment date, and a Payment method.
  4. From the Payment account drop-down menu, select the bank account.
  5. Under the CATEGORY column from the Category details, choose your Interest Expense account.
  6. Enter the amount of the interest charge.
  7. Click Save and close.

Once done, you can proceed to your account. Refer to this article for the steps on how to reconcile an account: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
