Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

Hi there.

So I have an existing business in QBD which I've had for 12 or so years...bank with Chase and the feed works fine, it asks for my "PIN/Password" when I connect, I give it the website password (20+ char long) and there we go.

Now I have a new business venture I am starting up. Just like my other one it's a single member LLC but this one won't likely get the S-Corp status...anyway, I have created a new company in QBD, no biggie all good.

Go to set up the bank feed, pick JP Morgan Chase, and it wants "social security number" ugh I guess that's because of the LLC single member thing but nope I have an EIN for it, just like the other business...should take that since that is how the bank account is set up. Then it asks for "PIN", which I enter again the website password. Yes Chase has both of the accounts under one login.

Next it pops up and says that Chase says I have to change the PIN/Password...ok, I kinda doubt that but whatever...next window it presents literally will only allow 4 characters in the fields. While that can be a PIN like an ATM card pin (which doesn't work) it says "PIN/Password" and well, nah you won't find me with a 4 digit password.

So what the heck here? How is this supposed to work? Entering this info fails every time. Cannot find a combo of user ID etc that it will accept.

I know it's been awhile since I set one of these up but I'd think it should be asking me for the website ID/Pwd not some 4 digit PIN.

The only PIN anywhere for Chase is the ATM pin and the code I use for calling in, and the ATM pin is the only one which is 4 digits, which doesn't work either.

And yes it's enabled for connecting via desktop apps, checked that already. This clearly works for the other account, and it's adding this one where it's all wonky.

Looking for ideas here...thx.

Are you really logged into Chase and did you have them setup your account for Online Access?

I've used Chase for years, when you go to do a Bank Feed it asks for you PASSWORD not the PIN you use at the ATM.  So I don't know why they'd ask for that in the Setup.  I can see them asking for the last four or something on the SS/EIN to make sure you are you.  I'd suggest you call them and walk though the setup with them.

BE SURE TO GET THE PHONE NUMBER OFF OF A CHASE STATEMENT!!  Don't take a number from anyone here or the first one you find on the Web.  If you don't have a statement yet, call your branch (if you have a card from who helped you) or drop by to get the Online Tech Support number.

Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

Yep. Like I said it works for the account I have on my other company file.

Going up to banking > set up bank feeds.... Then in there select JPM Chase within QBD. It asks for SSN and

"JP Morgan Chase PIN".  The interface is indeed pretty dated even for QBD 2020.

This field at least lets you put the EIN in there and the full password...so the field isn't character limited there. But afterwards it says "have to change PIN/Password" and the next presented screen has only picked up 4 characters and only allows 4 characters for "PIN/Password".

And yea I have checked w Chase and the account is set up for online access.

Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

Hi @GlobalMind,

Thanks for letting us know about this. I'll share some information about the Chase account sign-in page in QuickBooks. As mentioned by our Allstar Pete_Mc, you should be able to enter your password, not PIN. That said, you'll want to reset your software update to include critical fixes. This way, you'll be able to enter the password again.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks company files.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu.
  3. Search for QuickBooks Desktop, Then, right-click the icon and choose Run as administrator.
  4. While on No Company File Open screen, go to Help and the tap Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  5. Hover towards the Options tab, and the tick Mark all and then Save.
  6. Scroll towards the Update Now tab, and then tick the Reset Update checkbox.
  7. Click Get Updates.

Refer to this guide for details: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

After installing the update, go back and check if you can now enter your password.

If you're still experiencing the same result, please contact our Customer Care Support so we can investigate further. Use this link to reach out: Contact QuickBooks Desktop Support.

In case you need help with other banking-related tasks, browse this link to go to the page. It has our general banking topics with videos and articles to guide you along: Banking.

I'll be around should you have follow-up questions or concerns with logging in to your bank account. Don't hesitate to reply. Take care and have a good one.

Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

Thank you for the instruction - code change makes sense. However, unfortunately this didn't fix the issue.

I am attaching screen captures of the dialog boxes which appear. You can see on the first - this is after selecting the bank, it prompts for SSN (I use EIN here) and pin/password. This field is large enough to fill in the proper info.

Once I move on from that box, it prompts and says JPM requires a password change. The next image attached auto-fills the current password but it's just 4 characters. Or I assume that's part of the password...the boxes below it only allow 4 characters, no more. So obviously that doesn't work.

I still say to call Chase while you're sitting at your computer.  Often they need to reset your Account to allow a new login.  They can also walk you though the specifics.

I don't remember Chase being an issue, but I have frequently run across new setups where they may be calling this a "PIN" when it is a Security Code they're trying to send to your phone or email.  So that's why talking to them will make sure they have all the correct info.

Yea might need to. Really odd behavior here, at least as I see it, but perhaps there is something else which isn't immediately evident that it's looking for.

Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

I have been dealing with difficulty downloading my Chase transactions for the last 12 months.  A lot of finger pointing either direction - QB and Chase.  Recently, ie June, I finally managed to talk to a customer service rep who know what she's talking about and got it corrected on Chase security.  In July, I tried to download my transactions again and it only downloaded 1 of the 3 cards.  I tried calling Chase and QB again.  More finger pointing.  One QB rep says Chase does not download to any Intuit products anymore and that I will find the notice on the Intuit web site.  I looked and didn't see any of that being mentioned.  I also uses Quicken for my personal books and it did give me a notice saying that Chase and Intuit now have a new partnership for eaiser downloading!!! WTF.

If someone knows what's going on, please let me know.

Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

I'm here to clarify things about connecting and downloading Chase transactions to QuickBooks, @LKVoss.

I tried to check on our end and didn't find any notice that Chase stop downloading transactions to any Intuit product.

Since you're unable to connect and download your Chase transactions to QuickBooks, it's possible that there's an issue with your company. This can be the reason why you're unable download your bank transactions. To fix this, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps below:

First, let's perform a manual update in your Bank Feed center. This will automatically download all your transactions to your Chase account.

  1. Proceed to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds and choose Bank Feeds Center.
  3. Click Chase bank in the BANK ACCOUNTS section and click the Synchronize button. Then, click Sync this account
  4. In the Access to window, enter your PIN or password to connect to your bank.
  5. Click OK.

Once your transactions show in the Bank Feed center you can now review them.

For future reference, I've added an article you can utilize that contains solutions on how to fix online banking issues: Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors.

Reach out to me if you need further assistance when working with downloading Chase with QuickBooks. I’ll be glad to lend a helping hand. Stay safe and have a good one.

Connect to Chase bank feed - 4 digit password?

Hi Rubielyn,

I had gotten the bankfeed with Chase fixed in May/June so that it would do what you described.  However, 1 month later, it would only download a partial of the transactions, ie only the transactions that I made and not the other cardholders. It is a business credit card account.  To date no one, either Chase or QB have been able to help me do a direct download or a download via QBO.  I have QB desktop Pro 2020.

Appreciate any additional thoughts on this.
