Converting from Desktop to QuickBooks online, and noticed some errors. Can I import the company again? Update the import?

Welcome to the Community, @michele49. I'm here to help you get past this issue.

The error occurs when the path to your company file is more than 4 folders deep. Let's copy the company file to your C:\ drive to fix this issue.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop, press F2 on your keyboard.
  2. Copy the Location of your File Information, then close your QuickBooks Desktop (Alt + F4).
  3. Go to your C:\ drive in your Windows and add the file in there.
  4. Open your QuickBooks Desktop again. Go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  5. Open the saved file from the new location and re-export the file.

@michele49

Open your company file, hit f2 key, and make sure Total Targets < 350K. Bear in mind, you are unable to purge QBO Simple Start and you should open a new blank QBO account to migrate your data again.

Thank you - appreciate your reply!

I did import the QuickBooks Pro 2019 desktop file successfully to QuickBooks Online (QuickBooks Simple Start) ... but there were some un-billed expenses and other minor issues that I should have cleaned up before the export/import step. That led me to wonder if I can re-import from QB desktop. It sounds like I have to start over with a brand-new Online account for that -- so maybe the best path is to just clean up what I can.
