Difference Between Void a check or delete a check

Voiding changes the amount of the check to zero but keeps a record of the transaction in your books. Deleting on the other hand removes the transaction entirely in QuickBooks. It also causes the bill(s) paid to return to unpaid status.

If you will be deleting or voiding the liability checks, the child support payments will become unpaid in the Payroll Center. To fix the issue, you can create a prior payment. Then, select the Affect liability accounts but not the bank account option.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Help menu, then select About QuickBooks.
2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Y to open the Setup YTD Amounts window.
3. Select Next until you reach the Enter prior payments section.
4. In the Enter Prior Payments window, click Create Payment.
5. Enter the Payment Date and For Period Ending date accordingly (in many cases these dates will be the same).
6. Click Accounts affected, then select Affect liability accounts but not the bank account.
7. Select Finish.
