Expense Import from file fails at final import with "can't import all data - try again" (paraphrase) message. Everything in the process looks ok until then.

It's not individual records in the file (I've tried each record alone - failed). It's not the date format (tried all options). It's not numbers in the Desc (eliminated all nums from text).

Hi there, WAKphone.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. Please know that we aim to deliver customer satisfaction at all times and fix an issue as soon as possible. With this, may I ask for additional details on how you import expenses from file to QuickBooks Online? I appreciate you for sharing additional information so I can present accurate details.

In the meantime, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. Then, try to import your data to QuickBooks from there. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using.

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, you have to clear the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see what details you can import to QBO and to make sure that they'll upload correctly: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to click the Reply button below and add extra details about importing expenses. I'll get back to you, WAKphone. Have a great day!

Ok - I have tried the suggestions from your response to no avail.

Additional Details -

1) I'm actually trying in load Invoice Payments from 2 Payment Paths/Vendors that are not available as links in the banking Interface:

  a) Bluepay - a payment portal that accepts regular payments from customers and aggregates them to a once daily ACH deposit to our checking account.

  b) EVO (our Merchant CC account) - EVO behaves like bluepay, we submit CC payments from our customers and EVO deposits daily aggregate batch close funds to our checking through ACH.

My plan was to download detail activity to CSV and import the detail to QBO/undeposited funds and then create bank deposits that match the bank activity for reconciliation. If that's possible.

Additional Note: having cleared the cache and gone Private in Chrome (per instructions) I tried to load my test file and received the error message: Unexpected token '<', "<!DOCTYPE "... is not valid JSON

after identifying the file (attached) and clicking "Next". The error appears at the top of the page on the import wizard.

Thank you for keeping us updated, @WAKphone. Let me share some additional information about the error that you get.

The data in your browser is what is causing the JSON error while importing. Oftentimes, the browser will save data that is regularly visited, which can result in QuickBooks Online (QBO) encountering strange errors like this. I suggest performing once more the steps provided by my colleague ChristieAnn. This helps fix any browser-related problem.

I advise getting in touch with our Customer Care Support if the problem persists. By doing this, they can investigate this issue further and offer the best solution to your problem. Here's how:

  1. Click on Help (?) at the top.
  2. Go to the Assistant tab, and select Talk to a human.
  3. Fill in your concern in the Type something field, then hit the send icon.
  4. Click on I still need a human.
  5. Choose to Get help from a human.
  6. Select Chat with us or Have us call you.

Also, note their support hours to ensure they're available to assist.

Once everything is good, see this guide on how you can handle the importing process: What information can I import to QuickBooks Online?

Don't hesitate to reply to this thread. It's our pleasure to help you further with importing or QuickBooks particularly. Don't overwork yourself and keep safe always!

@WAKphone

Another option, use the trial version for a 3rd party tool to convert csv file to qbo file to isolate the problem.
