Try opening your QBO account on any private/incognito browser.

Has anyone else had issues with connecting their bank accounts to QuickBooks? I've tried 4 different accounts and the same message keeps showing " Cant connect to categ"

Hi there, mariov.

Let me provide insights into various causes of your inability to connect different accounts to QuickBooks Online. I'll also ensure you can link them to the program smoothly.

Beforehand, may I ask what specific bank accounts are you trying to connect to QBO and what complete error you received? I appreciate any further details so I can present accurate information.

For now, here are a few possible reasons why you're unable to connect your bank accounts:

  • The bank may not be a participating bank.
  • Your bank might not connect to all types of accounts (for example, personal accounts vs. business accounts).
  • The bank is having a system maintenance.
  • Some banks have multiple names on our list. You might want to check and select the correct one or try all possible bank URLs.

To start sorting this out, I recommend signing in to your bank's website to check if there are issues with your financial institution. This way, you can also verify if there are notifications from your bank that need attention that might cause you to receive an unexpected error while connecting the bank to QBO. You can refer to this article and follow step 2 on how to perform the process: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online

Once verified that there are no ongoing problems with your FI, I recommend logging into your QBO account on a private browser and connecting your banks from there. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and incognito doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, you need to clear the cache of your regular browser and prevent not including cookies. It deletes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. If the steps above don't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

In case you need steps on how to review downloaded bank entries by matching or adding them to avoid double data, you can read this artilcle: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

You can always go back to this post if you need a hand with linking bank accounts or any QBO-related concerns. I'll be here to ensure your success. You have a good one, mariov.
