It's great to know that you've opened a new Certificate of Deposit (CD), @new2023, and want to organize your financial transactions by linking it to QBO. I'm here to provide guidance regarding this.
You can link your Certificate of Deposit (CD) account the same way when you connect your Checking account in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, please know that QBO depends on the connections your financial institution allows. You can follow these steps:
- In your QBO account, go to Transactions. Then, Bank transactions.
- Click on Link account.
- Enter your bank name or URL in the search field.
- Locate the CD account you want to connect on the Which accounts do you want to connect? page and select it.
- From the Enter account type, choose Add new.
- Enter an appropriate name, and choose Savings as the Detail Type since a CD account can be considered a savings account type.
- Select Save and Close.
- Review other details. Then, hit Connect.
If your CD account isn't on the list, you can set up your CD account in your Chart of accounts and manually upload transactions, as a workaround. Here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon. Then, Chart of accounts.
- Click on New.
- Enter an appropriate name, and choose Bank from the Account type drop-down list.
- Choose Savings as the Detail Type since a CD account can be considered as a type of savings account.
- Select Save and Close.
- Enter and review other details and hit Save.
If you need to record transactions between your other bank accounts and your CD account after this, you can record them as transfers. I'm adding this article as a reference: Transfer funds between accounts.
