How do I completely undo a previous bank reconciliation

I have already removed the R for reconciliation on the check register. I cannot find the way to remove the 4/30/24 reconciliation to start over. We just changed to QuickBooks online version

How do I completely undo a previous bank reconciliation

I appreciate what you've done so far, Anthony. I'm here to ensure you can undo the past bank reconciliation to start over.

When undoing a bank reconciliation, there are two ways to do it. You can manually unreconcile each transaction by removing the R or you can ask your accountant to undo the entire period at once using QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA).

Here's how to invite your accountant:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner, and select Manage Users.
  2. Go to the Accounting firms tab, and click the Invite button.
  3. Enter the accountant's information.
  4. Click Save.

Once your accountant accepts the invite, you can share this article for guidance on how to undo reconciliation: Undo a client’s reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

If you run into any errors or issues while reconciling, refer to this article: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

You're still welcome to comment back if you have more questions in mind about bank reconciliation. I'll be around to help you.

How do I completely undo a previous bank reconciliation

@LouiseG,, I'm having a similar problem.

I'm using Quickbooks Online.

I'm not an accountant or a bookkeeper.  Just a lowly small business owner.

I completed a reconciliation, but set the wrong date accidentally, (12/31/2025 instead of 12/31/2024).  I unreconciled every item in the reconciliation (per your instructions), so that it shows a Blank under the checkmark column in the account's register instead of an (R).  I went ahead and Reconciled.

Unfortunately, the system still shows the 2025 reconciliation report (which is in the future).

How do I undo the reconciliation without having to hire an accountant or purchase QuickBooks Online Accountant.  Or how do I remove the report, as it's an erroneous report.  If there's no way to remove it, how do I make a note/comment/memo on the report to note that it was the result of an error?

How do I completely undo a previous bank reconciliation

You're on the right track to fix the issue with the incorrect reconciliation date in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Zoinks.

You can manually undo the reconciled transactions without the need to hire an accountant. This process removes them from the reconciliation, which enables you to reconcile the account again and select the correct date.

Each time you complete a reconciliation in QBO, the system automatically generates a reconciliation report, which can't be removed.

This report will reflect the ending date that you select during the reconciliation process. As long as you entered 12/31/2024 as the ending reconciliation date during the new reconciliation, the new report should reflect the updated date.

See the sample image below for your visual reference.

If the report still displays incorrectly even after selecting the appropriate date, logging out and back into QuickBooks or clearing your browser's cache to refresh the system, can sometimes resolve display issues. You can also use another supported browsers to run the report and check if the issue is browser-specific. QuickBooks Online works best with browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari.

Regarding the reconciliation report itself, QuickBooks doesn't provide an option to add a memo, note, or comment directly on it. However, you can make notes on individual transactions in the register.

If you have more clarifications or QuickBooks concerns, please leave a reply below. We'd be glad to assist.
