Hello, wkrentz.
There are several scenarios in deleting your checking account in QuickBooks. I'd like give you a thorough and step-by-step instructions in handling the recent changes coming from your checking account.
If the checking account has no transactions recorded yet (and not yet connected to any services like payroll), you can safely inactivate it from your Chart of Accounts (this won't be completely deleted however):
Create a new checking account by clicking the New button on the Chart of Accounts page.
If your checking account has already a number of entries, it's recommended to keep it in your Chart of Accounts.
Deleting or inactivating it will create an adjusting entry in your books. However, this might cause issues in your reports or balances.
In addition, handling it depends if it is connected to payroll, Online Banking feature, or the Payments service.
Is the checking account connected to the Online Banking feature? If that's the case, there is no need to delete it from QuickBooks and create a new one.
All you have to do is to update the sign in information to continue using the Online Banking feature:
However if the new owners have completely overhauled the website (new links, new data, etc..), then there might be a new connection listed in our Banking page.
In this case, simply disconnect the account and check for the new connection.
Before disconnecting, make sure to categorize the remaining transactions under the For review page first.
To disconnect the account:
Reconnect with the new banking link and connection data for the checking account. Check this article if you need help connecting it: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.
If there's no new link or connection, consider uploading your bank transactions manually in the meantime.
However, if the checking account is connected to other services like payroll or the QuickBooks Payments service, simply update the account information.
There are step-by-step instructions and procedures on how to do this. You'll want to check these articles for a guide:
If you're ready to reconcile your new checking account in the future, you can check this article for a guide: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online,
