How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

You have an option to convert your QuickBooks Online data to QB Desktop, K3K.

You'll want to download a trial version of QBDT before you convert. You can check this article to know how: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's an article for the detailed steps about exporting from QBO to QBDT: Export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

For the exporting process from QBDT to TurboTax Business, I recommend reaching out to TurboTax support directly: https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/.

Please let me know how it goes or if you have any additional questions about the process. I'm always here to answer them.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

This is NOT an acceptable method (workaround)!  QBO should be able to be imported to TurboTax directly.  Having to sign up for a QB Desktop Trial and installing QBDT and moving data from QBO in order to then import into TurboTax is ridiculous.  Intuit has had more than a year to fix this problem.  If you want to give us a totally FREE non-trial version of QBDT I might consider switching back permanently (or at least until I find a replacement for QB all together).  The switch from QBDT to QBO was NOT seamless and the features are NOT the same.  I do not trust anything from QB to work as promised.  Intuit doesn't care about making its customers happy.   I have had QBO support (Philippines) change my business records without authorization which is not OK.  It took hours for me to correct.  I tried to make an official complaint and have never received a response.  There is no reason Intuit/QB can't make the data importable.  My recommendation is to not use QBO, or even QB at all.  Buyer beware!  once you have all your business entwined in QB it is not easy to get out and replace, but I will keep looking so I can tell Intuit goodbye forever.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I wasted hours trying to do this last year. And since I was doing it on a Sunday, customer care wasn't available.  After I got the desktop version installed, it wouldn't import my files.  I wasted money by buying TurboTax and not being able to use it. I ended up paying an accountant to do my business return.

It is still a serious failing of this product that Intuit does not support Turbo Tax import of QB Online.

I just downloaded TurboTax Business ASSUMING that I could import my QB Online transactions for my business into TurboTax seeing as these are both Intuit products.  I didn't even bother to check because I assumed that this was a no-brainer.  Well....you know what happens when you assume.  I am SHOCKED that I can't do this.  It's unconscionable in this day and age that this would be an issue.  Shame on you, Intuit.

I am beside myself with disbelief that you are proposing a band-aid solution to get QBO to Turbotax that Intuit itself does NOT support. One of the many steps you propose REQUIRES the USE of Internet Explorer 11, it is a mandatory use, you can NOT DOWNLOAD your data with any other browser from QBO to Quickbook Desktop. The problem is that clearly Intuit did not check with its own support team because as posted here by Intuit Internet Explorer 11 is NO LONGER a supported browser to use QBO. In fact when you attempt to access the SETTINGS inside QBO the gear icon disappears. I have attempted this on 3 computers, clearly certain departments of Intuit are not talking with other  departments. Intuit has disabled QBO functionality in IE11, essentially eliminating the ONLY possible lengthly solution to download QBO to Quickbook desktop.

I am left with 2 possible reason for this enormous oversight:

1. Intuit is inept and will suffer the consequences of failed customer service companies like Comcast and Bell Atlantic. In other words you will be out of business in like 15years because you failed to listen to your customers.

Or 2. You clearly want to steer QBO customers to ONLY be able to use your accountant and bookkeeping services to file their taxes which will add another service revenue stream for your business.

As I said I am beside myself, for the past 5 years I have went down the 15 step process to download QBO data to QB Desktop and then upload to Turbotax, it was painful and beyond time consuming, but I did it. This year you inadvertently closed the only way to accomplish this by stopping support of IE 11, a browser you state is THE ONLY WAY to download QBO to QB Desktop...... https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/update-products/discontinuing-support-for-internet...

Shame on you.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Attempting to convert QBO to Desktop to Turbotax. Each year this process gets more difficult. Now with the disappearing gear, and this additional work around I got as far as downloading the company file, but when it attempts to convert the file QB Pro 2020 opens a dialogue box that is now asking for a username and password log in. This must be a new feature in QB Pro2020 requesting a email whenever opening a NEW customer file, in this case Converting One fro QBO, the issue is the conversion process stops in QBO with the following message: The following errors occured while trying to export your company data: A communication problem with QuickBooks desktop edition has occured : a modal dialogue box is showing in the Quickbook interface. Your application can not access Quickbooks untill the user dismisses the dialogue box.

Again the dialogue box is the automated "Login with email" feature new to QB desktop. when you close that dialogue and go back to QBO to started the conversion process again, you need to start over again and Name a New company, and then when it attempts to convert the same dialogue appears again because its a new company to QB desktop so I am stuck in this cycle now unable to move forward. I can not reuse the already started company which I told QB desktop to delay username dialogue box for 7days, because QBO will not overwrite an existing company file so again stuck starting a new company file to convert and running into the username dialogue popping up each time.

Total BS.  Two years and still only a work around.  Intuit doesn't care enough to even acknowledge our difficulties and displeasure.  Stop using Intuit products and tell/warn everyone.  They just don't care

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hi there, @mike36.

For now, the option to import QuickBooks Online Data into TurboTax Desktop is still unavailable. Our developers are continually gathering data based on customers' requests when adding a new feature. Let me send another feedback to them so they can add your data to the list.

In the meantime, you can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop so you can export your data from QBO to QBDT, then QB Desktop to Turbotax. You can follow these articles below.

You can always tag me below if you need anything else.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

But you can't... The process requires IE11 WHICH YOU DON'T SUPPORT AND THEREFOR DOESN'T RUN QBO!

Are you even paying attention? As someone new, I was looking at moving to QBO for my new small business after using QB at my previous employer. This is absolutely nuts. No integration between 2 key products that are clearly meant to work together, and the only work around provided can't technically work because obviously left hand and right hand don't talk to each other. At the end of the day though, it seems neither hand cares to listed to the customers.

Glad I found this. Not gonna buy either now.

Agreed, the P&L report makes is relatively straightforward, but how difficult would it be to create an export / import pair of features?

I've paid Intuit over $5,000 since 2014 only to learn that I cannot use the Intuit Turbo Tax Business 2019 that I just purchased, the Paralllels program I just purchased, the Windows 10 pro that I just purchased and now you want me to purchase a desktop version of QB that also won't work? In what universe do you live? I WILL cancel my QBO subscription tomorrow if there's not a better solution. I'll be da....ed if I'll give Intuit another penny!

Agreed!  I invested in quickbooks online last year because turbotax recommended it.  Now there is no way to import the data!  WTF Intuit.  Fix this!!

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Wait.... QB Desktop can convert the file but Intuit can't build a simple tool to convert the online version, wait for it, that works online!!!!

That has always been QB's way. They don't really care about their customers because if they did it would have been an option when QBO became available. All Intuit cares about is money and making sure their shareholders and CEO make more $$$$.

And why would they care, they don't have a lot of competition in the Turbotax arena. I would bet dollars to cents they could make an online converter in no time.  Until there is competition in that arena they will not notice or care.

Since they don't care and I have to enter my information manually anyways.... I have started using 2 other competing accounting software to see which I like better so I can move away from QB. They are cheaper than QB's too, so that's another bonus.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hi, Kim.  I appreciate that you're trying to offer help to the community, and Intuit's help department has always given good customer service.  However, the solution that you're offering is not practical, and judging from the angry responses from other community members on this thread, the suggested workaround is only creating more problems and negative feelings among QuickBooks Online users.

Instead of having my QuickBooks Online clients go through a convoluted process of downloading another version of QuickBooks and importing data into that program (which rarely works 100% effectively, is extremely time-consuming, and is prone to user error), I've advised my clients to generate P&L statements and manually enter that data into Turbo Tax.   While this is obviously not as fast as being able automatically import data into Turbo Tax, my solutions is a lot simpler and less error-prone than Intuit's suggested workaround.

This thread has been open for over a year, and the community message has been very clear: please give QuickBooks Online users a way to automatically import their data to Turbo Tax.  Why has Intuit not implemented this feature yet or at least indicated that it's on the list for future feature requests?  If Intuit is banking on the long-term success of QuickBooks Online, then I think the company owes it to its customers to listen more closely to the community feedback.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I am sure this question has been asked on this long and frustrating thread before but...

I have:

  • quickbooks online for LLC partnership non-community state (e.g., VA)
  • turbo tax Home & business

I have realized I actually need to get turbotax business for my LLC.  Then it looks like my quickbooks won't talk to TT business anyways.  Then I have to use my TT H&B for my own personal taxes.  Is this all right?

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hi there, @neildeal

I appreciate your understanding about the inability of QuickBooks Online to integrate with TurboTax.

Yes, you can use your TT H&B for your personal taxes by entering your transactions manually or exporting QBO data first to QuickBooks Desktop, then import it into your TurboTax account.

If you opt for the conversion process, you don't need to purchase a QBDT license. You only need to convert it to Desktop using a trial version to import the data successfully. Once done, follow the steps below to transfer your Quickbooks data into TurboTax:

  1. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import, then click From Accounting Software.
  2. Select QuickBooks (2020) and click Continue.
  3.  Follow the onscreen instructions.

Also, I'd recommend using this article to guide you in importing QuickBooks into TurboTax: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?.

If you have any other questions about sending your tax info, I recommend you contact our TurboTax Support team. They have a dedicated community site to answer all the tax and product questions that you have.

Visit again if you have any follow-up questions. We're always around to listen and help.
