Thanks for reaching us in the Community, jorfrank88. Let me share some additional insight about unlinking an account an external account for your QuickBooks Checking.

For now, unlinking an external bank account from your QuickBooks Checking account is unavailable. However, you can add another account to use in the future.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Dashboard, then select Cash flow.
  2. Select QuickBooks Checking.
  3. Choose Transfer and click on Add a bank.
  4. Enter the necessary information about this bank account.
  5. Follow the prompts to finish adding this account.

QuickBooks will deposit two small amounts into your account after three days. You can verify the transactions in QuickBooks once you see the deposits in your account.

How do I unlink an external bank account from my QBO checking?

1. That's not true. I was told on the phone I can unlink a bank account. So either I was told wrong information or you are incorrect.

2. This doesn't answer my question. I asked about unlinking an account. Are you telling me there is no possible way to do this?

I want to unlink the account so I can relink it again. I am assuming I can't link the same bank account twice to my QBO?

I appreciate you for getting back on this thread and contacting our QuickBooks Support Team, jor.

Linking the correct external bank account in QuickBooks Checking is essential to keep your records accurate.

I'm here to route you to the correct support to provide the right info on handling this without missing any data in your QuickBooks Checking account.

Disconnecting a linked account in online banking differs from unlinking an external bank account in QuickBooks Checking.

Yes, you can easily disconnect an account in your bank feeds by following the steps in this article: Delete a bank or credit card account. On the other hand, I recommend contacting the Green Dot Support Team to verify if you can disconnect an external account. You can contact our Payment Support Team and request a transfer to their representative.

The Green Dot support can provide steps to unlink your account if possible. They can also offer an alternative way to reconnect it if unlinking isn't allowed.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help (?) icon at the top.
  2. On the Assistant tab, click Talk to a human.
  3. Enter your concern in the Type something field, then click the Send icon.
  4. Click on I still need a human.
  5. Select Get help from a human.
  6. You can either select Chat with us or Have us call you.

Additionally, you can use reports to track cash flow in QuickBooks Online to get a clear look at your current and future business finances and ensure your data is accurate.

You can always click the Reply button if you have additional questions about handling your QuickBooks Checking transactions and ensuring the money in and out entries are recorded accurately. I'll be right here to help you.

How do I unlink an external bank account from my QBO checking?

Based on the user's question, I think they mean checking in QuickBooks and removing an external account you previously had linked.

How QBO doesn't allow you to do that is beyond me. So now I have to scroll through old accounts I had and hope I never make the mistake of selecting one.

Thanks for joining this thread, Jpena1015.

If you're using QuickBooks Online and had a bank account connected, QuickBooks retains the account and its transaction records for auditing and reconciliation integrity. To stop new data, you must disconnect the account, which stops feed updates while leaving the record of your account in the Chart of Accounts. This helps preserve data history in your books.

I can certainly understand how an ability to remove the accounts entirely could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon.
  2. Go to Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates page.

In the event you're using QuickBooks Checking, you can use the information and steps in RhoiceW's post. Currently, there isn't a process for entirely disconnecting/removing an external account from QuickBooks Checking once it's been connected. I've also submitted feedback about this as well; and you're welcome to if you're using QuickBooks Checking instead of QuickBooks Online's Online Banking feature.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great Wednesday!
