How to get a QFX file from my bank into quickbooks?

I cannot believe how many Quickbooks experts cannot answer a simple question: Many banks only have Quicken .qfx files for download. How can a person convert .qfx to .qbo..?

How to get a QFX file from my bank into quickbooks?

I put together this little narrative for my own purposes, so I wouldn't forget.  No QB experts contributed to this, only fellow users.

How To Convert .qfx Files To .qbo Files For Bank Feed Import Into Quickbooks Web Connect

1. Open the .qfx file in Notepad

2. Find the line <INTU.BID>xxxx where “xxxx” is a number; this line will be somewhat close to the top

3. Replace that “xxxx” number with “11162” (for Bank of America accounts, for example)

4. Save the file with a new filename ending with .qbo

5. Import that newly-named file into QB using the Bank Feed process

It’s really that simple.

Other Bank of America QB Web Connect numbers that might work if 11162 doesn’t work for some reason include 5358 and 6526 (or 05358 and 06526).

You can find other banks’ replacement numbers at https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qb2900/data/fidir.txt .

For example, the Chase Web Download number is 2430 (or 02430).

How to get a QFX file from my bank into quickbooks?

Currently, QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO) do not support QFX files, @enter a property tax payment. As a workaround, you can utilize a third-party application to convert your QFX files into a format that QuickBooks can accept before importing them. Here’s how you can do this:

For QBDT:

1. Open the Desktop App Center: Start by launching the Desktop App Center, which is your gateway to various applications that can enhance your QuickBooks experience.

2. Search for a Converter Tool: In the Search tab, enter a relevant keyword such as file converter or QFX converter to locate a suitable tool that can convert your QFX files into a format compatible with QBDT.

3. Select the Appropriate App: Browse through the list of available converter tools and choose the app that best meets your specific needs. Consider factors like user ratings, features, and compatibility to ensure you select the right tool for your requirements.

Once your file is converted, you can import it into QBDT by following the instructions in the Connect with Web Connect (.QBO) files section in this article: Set up or edit bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

For QBO:

1. Access the Apps Section: On the left panel of your QBO interface, navigate to the Apps section, which will allow you to explore various applications that can enhance your QuickBooks functionality.

2. Find a Converter Tool: Click on Find apps and use the search feature to locate a converter tool that suits your needs. Look for options that specifically mention compatibility with QFX files or the ability to convert to formats usable in QBO.

3. Importing the Converted File: Once your file has been successfully converted, the next step is to import it into QBO. For guidance, refer to the articles on how to Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online and Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks. These resources provide detailed instructions to ensure a smooth import process.

After importing your file, I highly recommend reviewing the following articles to ensure your financial statements accurately reflect your business performance:

How to get a QFX file from my bank into quickbooks?

Renaming .qfx file to .qbo file did "not" work for me.

With all due respect, what you just posted for QBDT in response to my comment is far more complicated and less likely to succeed than what I posted.

Folks, you don't need a converter (esp. given the sketchy nature of so many "free" tools out there).  All you need is the QFX file, and then open it with...never mind. I'm not going to rewrite it all.  All you need is Notepad (which comes with Windows computers).

Read my earlier comment. I lays out a perfect pathway to easily, quickly, and securely converting a QFX file to QBO format without a converter.  I've been doing it that way for more than a year, with nary a glitch.

THANK YOU..!!! You will go down in history as the most brilliant "Master of Quickbook's Desktop"..!

I have searched for years on how to convert .qfx to .qbo, and this week found my one and only online converter (qboconverter.com) was down for good. My taxes to my CPA are due Monday, but I still have a year's worth of Credit Card charges to upload or manually put into QB's. You have saved my day/week/month.

Please tell me you have a gofundme as there is no other way for me to repay you.

Sincerely, Brad

If that's all you did, then no kidding it didn't work.

My instruction was NOT to simply rename the file.  Read the complete instructions again.

Brad, I'm just happy to share the message, because I searched long and hard for a long time for a sustainable solution, and never found one, until someone (whom I unfortunately cannot name, because I don't remember where I found it) gave the world the instruction that I simply wrote down and saved for my own purposes, and tonight saw the opportunity to share it here.

So if it works for you and makes your life better, that's repayment enough.  I hope it works for you like it continues to work for me.
