I am having problems for some months trying to add a Wells Fargo account to my QB. I never get the access code they send, no matter what I do. Any ideas?

Hello there, @Maggie52.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps so you can add your account successfully. First, try adding the it using a private browser since it doesn't save browsing history in your device. Sometimes, the regular browser tends to hold onto information, and over time it could cause problems while working with QuickBooks.

To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari: press Command Shift +N

If you're able to connect the account from there, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. Also, using other supported browsers can help us narrow the cause of this behavior.

If you're getting the same problem, I encourage reaching out to your bank so they can review and investigate why you aren't able to receive the access code.

Post again if you have any other questions. I'm a few clicks away to help. Have a good day!

I am reluctant to try that, although I did see that when I searched. I got an access code when I first connected. I am now trying to add another account. I only have a Skype phone number, but it has texting, too, and it should work fine. Is there any way to turn off two step verification? I searched, and what I found seems out of date. I went into my account, and there was nothing listed for it. And is there any way to select email for the access code? If no to both of them, I'll try what you say, but I feel pessimistic, and God forbid I have to call Wells Fargo. I cannot imagine how they could help me with this. ...

Let me help with your question about bank accounts in QuickBooks Self-Employed, Maggie52.

We're unable to turn off the two step verification for connecting your bank account since it's an added security that's implemented by Wells Fargo. You'll want to reach out to them to check if they can turn it off for you.

Although, you can follow these steps to turn off two-step verifications when logging in or using any Intuit products and services:

  1. Sign in to your Intuit account.
  2. Proceed to the Sign In & Security tab.
  3. Scroll-down to the Two-step verification section and click on it.
  4. Click Turn off.
  5. Enter the code, then select Continue.

After successfully adding your account, follow the steps in this article on how to categorize your downloaded bank transactions: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Please add another reply below if you need more help with this. I'd be glad to get back here and offer my assistance again.

Two-step verification has been turned off at my Wells Fargo and Intuit accounts for some time. I checked, and it is not on in either place. But when I ask to connect to WF, I still get asked for a code, and the problem is: I can't get the code. It doesn't come through no matter what I do. It only allows me to use phone, not email. I feel certain if I could use email, it would come through, but that isn't an option. No text or call comes through. I have tried several times this year, and no luck. I tried other browsers, too. No luck.

Hello, @Maggie52.

I understand the impact of any delay in connecting your Wells Fargo accounts with QuickBooks. That being said, let me share additional information to make sure we're able to successfully do it.

To start with, QuickBooks' connection with your bank is a read-only type. Thus, I'd recommend contacting your bank's customer care team. They have the tools to securely look up your Wells Fargo account. Also, they can further verify whether your two-step verification code is set to send to your email or phone number. You can check this article to learn more about which banks use OAuth: What's OAuth and what's changing with banking connections.

Once confirmed,  you can follow the steps below to connect your bank.

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Bank accounts.
  3. Enter the bank name or URL in the search field, then click Continue.
  4. Type in your bank's login credentials.
  5. Click Connect securely.

Once completed, our system will automatically download the 90-days worth of your bank transactions. You can read through these articles for in-depth insights about managing your self-employed related downloaded transactions:

I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, so please let me know how it goes or if you have any other issues or concerns. I'll be here to assist. Have a great rest of the day!
