I am having problems reconciling my bank account in QBO. I am in the US. I get duplicate transactions that were reviewed and are in my register. Most from my cc. why?

Tried to match transaction and QB won't match. Very frustrating and time consuming. How can I resolve this problem?

Let’s remove those duplicate transactions to reconcile your accounts successfully, @Tncklas.

The information that's being downloaded in the bank register always depends on how a bank shared it with QuickBooks. You can exclude those duplicate transactions to remove those.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select the Banking tab.
  2. In the For Review tab, click the checkbox of the transactions to exclude.
  3. Select Exclude.

The transaction moves to the Excluded tab of the Banking page.

Here's a detailed guidance in excluding those transactions from your account: Exclude a bank transaction you downloaded into QuickBooks Online

Thank you but your response does not answer my question.  This is an ongoing problem.  I want to know

  • why I'm getting duplicates and how to prevent them going forward
  • why when I try to reconcile, the items I deleted that are duplicates are showing up as problems.  When I click on the link that says my balance is off, we can help, the items I've deleted are the problem and there is no way to fix it.
  • Is my only solution to this nightmare to find another bookkeeping software?

We don't want you to feel this inconvenience, @Tncklas. I'm here to make it up with you.

One of the possible reasons why there are duplicate transactions is that you've recorded the transactions within QuickBooks and added them from the Banking page.

Before anything else, may I know what bank is connected to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account? This way, we can verify if there's a reported issue with duplicate transactions and/or matching transactions. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime, you can consider undoing and excluding the duplicate transactions from the Banking page since matching them didn't work. Here's how to undo transactions:

  1. Click Banking from the left menu.
  2. Select the appropriate bank account.
  3. Go to the Categorized tab, then find the duplicate transactions and click Undo under the Action column.

Once done, the transactions are now moved to the For Review tab. Then, you can now exclude them. This will get rid of duplicate transactions.

After removing all the duplicate transactions, you may now proceed with reconciling the account. If you still get the same result, feel free to check out this article for some troubleshooting steps: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in QuickBooks Online.

Should you need further assistance reconciling accounts, I'm available here to help any time!

@Tncklas

Explore SlickConnect as a workaround. It is designed to import into any bank or credit card in QuickBooks Online, so there is no specific setting needed.

If the same error persists, you can explore to migrate to another accounting app.
