I am just now working on my 2023 return as I always file an extension. It looks like all of my 2023 transactions have disappeared - how do I get them back?

Thank you, Elizabethm, for bringing this to our attention. I'm here to provide information about your 2023 transactions that have disappeared.

To start with, transactions automatically download can usually be seen in your account. However, the availability of downloaded transactions depends on your bank. Some banks allow transaction downloads for up to 24 months, while others only allow 90 days. Therefore, if your 2023 transactions have disappeared, it is likely due to your bank's transaction download policies.

If you need to access your previous transactions, you'll have to manually upload them in QuickBooks Online (QBO). To do this, you'll need to first download the transactions from your bank. Follow the provided instructions to download the transactions in CSV format. Once downloaded, proceed to manually upload the transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the left navigation panel and select Transactions, then click Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the Link account option and then click Upload from the file.
  3. Choose Drag and Drop or select Files.
  4. If you choose Select files, select a file in your folder and click Open. And then click Continue.
  5. Follow the steps to match the columns on the file and then select Continue
  6. Choose transactions that you would like to import and then click Continue
  7. Press Yes. Then, click Done if when you already accepted your transactions.

If you want to learn more about how to obtain transactions from your bank or credit cards and import them into QBO manually, check this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

After you upload your transactions, you can categorize your online bank transactions in QBO and reconcile them.

If you have any concerns about missing 2023 transactions, please tag me in the comment section, Elizabethm. I'll assist you in any way possible.
