I am trying to import a check register from online to desktop

I'm glad to help import your check register from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to Desktop (QBDT), Cburns.

Your first step is to log in to QBO as the master admin and prepare the data from there. Let me show you how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as an admin.
  2. Go to the Reports menu.
  3. Search for and open an Account ListCustomer Contact List, or Vendor Contact List.
  4. On the report, select Customize.
  5. Select Rows and Columns and then Change columns.
  6. Select and reorder columns.

Then, open your QuickBooks Desktop file as the master admin and import the check register. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. From the File menu, select Utilities, then Import.
  2. Choose Excel Files. On the window that appears, select No.
  3. Click Advanced Import.
  4. Select Browse… and go to the Excel file of the account list you need to import.
  5. Select the Choose a mapping ▼ drop-down, then Add New.
  6. Add a mapping name, depending on the list you're importing. For example, add "Account List."
  7. Select an import type, and then start matching QuickBooks fields with your worksheet headers.
  8. Click Save once you’re done.
  9. Select Preview to make sure there are no mapping errors.
  10. On the error handling section, select what you’d like to happen if QuickBooks finds errors, then click OK once you're ready to Import.

You can also refer to this article for additional information: Move lists and balances from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Once you're done importing the check register, you can connect your bank and credit card to the QBDT. I've added this link for instructions and detailed steps: Get started with Bank Feeds for QuickBooks Desktop.

Stay in touch with me if you have follow-up questions about importing data from QBO to QBDT. Just leave a comment below, and I'm always right here to help you.
