I downloaded credit card transactions to the wrong account and now I cannot transfer to the correct account. How do I fix it?

Hello mercedesmilligan,

How did you download the transactions? Did you use WebConnect? If so, we can try fixing this by excluding the downloaded transactions and re-importing them.

Here's how to exclude:

  1. From the Banking page, go to the For Review tab.
  2. Select the transactions.
  3. Click on Batch actions.
  4. Choose Exclude Selected.
  5. Go to the Exclude tab, and select the transactions.
  6. Click on Batch actions and select Delete.

Let's import the credit card transactions again.

  1. On the Banking page, click on File upload
  2. Browse the file and click on Next.
  3. Choose the QuickBooks Account and click on Next.
  4. Click on Next then Let's go

You can now start adding/matching/categorizing these transactions.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

it happened to me too that I downloaded credit card transactions and for some reason QB chose the wrong credit card account for me. not sure why. anyway, I ended up deleting all the individual transactions from the account. now when I try to reimport them, it tells me  'nothing imported. the account is up to date.' it clearly isn't as the last transactions in that account are from december 2019. also, it switches back to the wrong account, even though I had chosen the correct credit card account prior.

Thanks for joining this conversation, nelliebee.

Since your bank didn't re-download the transactions to the correct account, you can manually upload them into QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before doing so, please take note of the oldest transaction's date. This to make sure you won't import transactions you've already recorded in QBO.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Banking on the left menu.
  2. Choose Banking at the top, then click File Upload.
  3. Hit Browse under the Select a file to upload and choose the bank file.
  4. Click Next.
  5. From the QuickBooks account drop-down, select the account you want to upload the bank data and then click Next.
  6. Select Let's go! or Finish depending on what you see.

Once done, you can now match or categorize the transactions.

I'd also like to share this article for additional details if bank won't automatically download: What to do if bank transactions won’t download.

If you have any questions about QBO, please let me know by posting a comment. I wish you all the best.

They do have a different set of steps, @Marlinspike.

You'll have to select Download Transactions from the Banking menu to upload your web-connect transactions.

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Select Download Transactions.
  3. Under the drop-down menu, select your bank or credit card account.
  4. Click Import Files.
  5. Find and open the file of your downloaded transaction.

I've got you this helpful article in case you wanted to start reconciling your bank or credit card accounts.
