Let me clear up some information about QuickBooks 2019 compatibility with Big Sur, kylco.

The Big Sur update for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019 has already been released several weeks. We can download the latest maintenance release to get it. You can follow the steps below on how to do it:

  1. Tap the QuickBooks drop-down to select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, choose Install Update.
  3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
  4. QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens when the update is complete.

Please know that in order to get the 2019 Big Sur update we only tested it on Big Sur. Thus, you'll only get notified if you're updated once you're running on Big Sur.

Also, another update will be pushed for 2019 as mentioned by IntuitBrooks, once we qualify everything for the earlier macOS versions. The 2019 version runs on five different macOS.

You'll want to browse these helpful articles in case you want to know more about QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me know if there is still confusion about the updates. We're always right here to give you the latest update and help you in any way.

I'm calling foul.

I made and tested a bootable image backup, and a QB database backup.  I then upgraded to Big Sur.  The first thing I did was try to update Quickbooks.  I got the "You're up to date!" message.  With the version of 18.0.9.3424 R10 (see attached.)  this is the version I was on before the upgrade.  No update happened.  I restarted QB, same thing.  I rebooted, same thing.

I tried a few thing in QB and all the windows popped up, but of course that's different than knowing it really works.  What is the version that supports Big Sur?   And how do I get it now?   OR should I just restore and wait?

Hi there, @DaveCanp.

I'm here to share with you some insights about the compatibility between macOS Big Sur and QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

Big Sur is still under beta testing. Meaning, it will work with some versions and won't for others. Currently, the supported versions are QBDT for Mac 2020 R6 and later versions and QBDT for Mac 2021 R3 and later versions.

Our team is working hard to ensure the supported versions of QuickBooks for Mac will work as designed. If you want to download one of these versions, you can visit this page, then select the 2020 or 2021 version.

Also, here's an article you can read more about installing and setting up QBDT for Mac.

Moreover, I recommend visiting this link for more updates about Intuit’s support policy for QuickBooks for Mac running on macOS 11 Big Sur.

I appreciate your patience with this matter. If you have follow-up questions, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Keep safe!

Here we go again with the mixed messages... can you guys at Intuit maybe have a meeting and decide if R10 is or is NOT compatible with Big Sur?

@DaveCanp did R10 work in Big Sur for you or were you unable to open it still? It's truly sad but at this point the community is far more trustworthy than the vendor's employees!

Angelyn_T:  Please read the post immediately previous to mine from MariaSoledadG, and the post from Rosa-LilaM and the post from IntuitBrooks.  All Employees who ALL claim that QBDT 2019 was updated but you have to be RUNNING Big Sur first because Intuit hasn't tested on previous versions.

I did exactly what they said to do, and it didn't upgrade.   Apparently, you folks can't get on the same page.  As a 15 year user of QB and a very technology savvy user I'm very disappointed.

@Kane Brands LLC it starts up as normal,  I was able to open invoices, bills, checking accounts, and couple of reports just fine.  But I didn't to a full feature check.  I'm not sure I can trust it yet.  I'd hate to do a bunch of work and then have to go backwards, so I may just revert back, or install on an older MacBook I have for the time being.

I'm with the engineering team. We've been moving as fast as possible. I don't think the knowledge base articles have kept up.  Here's the status:

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019, 2020, and 2021 have all been patched for Big Sur. They also now all have 1099 NEC support.

Note: There has been some confusion about 2019 R9 and R10. R9 was released only to people on Big Sur in order to get it qualified as quickly as possible - we didn't test it on Catalina, and all the other macOS versions that 2019 supports.  We did test R10 on all those systems.  So ignore R9 - R10 is the current release of 2019 no matter what supported macOS you are on and it works on Big Sur, too.

@IntuitBrooks Thanks for the clarification!  Knowing that R10 is the correct version for Big Sur was the missing piece of the puzzle.  I had updated to that before the Big Sur update, but there was no mention of Big Sur in the release note as there were for QBDT Mac 2020 and 2021.  SO I had expected another update to happen.

This is really frustrating !. I honestly do not know what intuit is leading us to do. I also noticed the one reply saying "2019 is ready" and then two liens down "2020 / 2021 are the only compatible" ...... What the heck do we do ?

So - I am actually totally unable to initially re download the item to my mac, because the mac had big sur on it, but not quickbooks. Meaning that I have a new mac that I am needing to download my existing software onto. When I download and try to open the .DMG file it says "disk image busy" and I cant go through the set up to even get to the "updates" area.

What a bullsh*t reply.  Was that AI-generated?  Is Quickbooks run by an AI CEO?  Or is it Intuit?  Oh, it's all horsesh%t anyway.  F$ck Quickbooks and Mac.
