I can download my bank transactions into QBO files. However, when I try to import them, I get a message that says:
"QuickBooks is unable to verify the Financial Institution information for this download."
I have a copy of a QuickBooks bank ID list, but my bank is not in the list. How do I get it there? Do I contact QuickBooks support or the bank?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
If the bank is creating the QBO file properly it should work.
What version of QuickBooks are you using?
Just updated to 2023... Same result...
I'm sure the problem is that the bank isn't in the list of currently supported banks in QuickBooks... I had a similar issue with another client using TD Bank and all I have to do is change the Bank ID in the QBO file for it to work properly... This is a little town co-operative bank...
Let me provide some insights to help download your bank transactions in QuickBooks, @ckshea13.
Before anything else, may I know the name of the bank? I appreciate any extra information you can give, and it will help us isolate the issue and provide the best solution.
Then you can also contact your bank to verify the correct link to use. This way, you can download your transactions successfully. If your bank isn't supported, you can ask your bank if you have the option to import your transactions manually.
In addition to that, the error message is one of the Web Connect problems that can happen for a variety of reasons. There could be some files from the bank that are occasionally incomplete or in the incorrect format. Changes at your bank can also cause problems.
To resolve this, let's download your Web Connect file directly from your bank, not from inside QuickBooks. Make sure the file you download from your bank is a .qbo file, the only type Web Connect can read.
Then, switch Bank Feeds modes. to proceed, here's how:
If issue persists, continue the procedures outlined in this article: Fix Web Connect import errors.

Do you have any option to download the file in *.csv format?
Answers to your questions:
The bank is Wrentham Cooperative Bank.
I downloaded the transactions as a QBO file directly from my bank (not thru QB) and am trying to manually import them.
And I get the same error in Classic Mode.
Yes, I can download as a .csv file. Once I do that, how do I import them?
Hello there, @ckshea13.
Thanks for replying back here in the thread and providing us with more information regarding your issue. This way, I'll be able to provide you with appropriate information and how we can rectify this.
I've replicated this here on my end and found out that your financial institution which is Wrentham Cooperative Bank is currently supported by Intuit. This means that you should be able to download your bank transactions to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Referring to your question on how to import bank transactions using a CSV file, we're currently unable to do that since we can only use a .QBO file to get bank transactions into the bank register.
As per my colleague above, the error message you encountered is caused by an issue with Web Connect. This happens when the formats are incompatible, incomplete bank files, and changes from your bank.
To fix this, let's perform the following troubleshooting steps:
First, let's download the Web Connect file directly from your bank, not from inside QuickBooks. Make sure the file you downloaded from your bank is a .qbo file, the only type Web Connect can read:
If you import and see your transactions in QuickBooks, you'll need to disconnect your account and then set it up again. If you encounter an error when downloading, there may be an issue with your bank. I'd suggest reaching out to them.
However, if you don't see an error message, I'd recommend reviewing notifications from your bank. They might have notified you of any changes such as the need to confirm your identity. If your bank no longer uses Web Connect, follow the steps to disconnect your account.
Since you've already tried switching bank feed modes and still get the error, I'd recommend proceeding to Step 4 which is to create a test file to see if the issue is with your company file.
When the transactions are already in, here's an article that'll help you in adding and matching the transactions: Add and match bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.
Feel free to utilize the comment section below if you have further questions with regard to downloading bank transactions. I'll be sure to get back to you. Keep safe.
Use the trial version of csv2qbo converter tool to isolate the problem. If you can import the *.qbo file, something is wrong with the *.qbo file your bank generated.

Where did you see that Wrentham Cooperative Bank is supported by Intuit?
It doesn't find it if I try Direct Connect from within QuickBooks...
I just performed an experiment... I opened the QBO file with notepad and changed the line:
<INTU.BID>17826 to <INTU.BID>3000
I know that Bank ID 3000 is Wells Fargo - worked great, but now it says the bank is Wells Fargo
This proves my theory that the QBO file is fine except that the Bank ID for Wrentham Cooperative is not in the list of accepted Bank IDs for QuickBooks.
How can I get it added to the list?
Hello, ckshea13.
I'd like to shed light on Wrentham's availability for the Bank Feeds feature.
To clarify, it looks like Wrentham Cooperative Bank isn't on the list of our supported banks. I also tried searching for it with the Direct Connect process and I wasn't able to find it (looked it up using QuickBooks Premier 2023):
I also checked further and it looks like Wrentham Cooperative Bank is only available for QuickBooks Online connection.
I'd like to address the part about adding Wrentham's bank ID.
It's up to the bank if they want to participate to be one of our partnered banks for the Bank Feeds feature.
To add the bank ID to the list, we'll want to get in touch with Wrentham Cooperative Bank. We would want to file a request to have them participate as a partner (for QuickBooks Desktop connection).
They'll work with our team handling the Bank Feeds feature and add the Bank ID. For transparency, the bank has the final say and initiative if they want to push for the connection.
I take it that you're able to import the transactions using your workaround. In this case, we can start categorizing them within QuickBooks Desktop.
If you need to reconcile your transactions from your Wrentham account in the near future, I'll add this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'm willing to hear you out if you have questions about managing your bank transactions. Do you have questions with other entries or reports? Add the details here and I'll lend a hand.
