I've recently been forced into QB on-line from a stand alone Desktop version (sigh). I'm having the work through the new interface and re-set many long standing connections that I previously did not have to worry about....like my Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, etc.. One of the features that I've never used in QB is "Matching". In the past, I would simply enter expenses (credit card and checks) as they occurred. Now, the new interface has matching front and center.
Q1: Can you pls help me understand the value of matching if I still plan to manually enter charges as they occur?
Q2: Is there a way to move the Matching landing page to the back so that I see the check register when I click on Banking button?
Thx, Ken
Good morning, @rkmilalm.
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the QuickBooks Community for support. I hope you're enjoying the day so far.
When you connect your bank and credit card accounts in QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks will automatically download the latest transactions for you. Once those transactions are loaded, QuickBooks will look for and try to match them with transactions you've already created. If it doesn't find an already created transaction, then QuickBooks will create one for you. Then all you'll need to do is approve the match or newly created transaction.
Check out Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online for more information about this process.
As for your second question, we don't have the option to move the Matching landing page to the back at this time. I understand how beneficial this option could be for you and your business, so I've gone ahead and submitted this suggestion to our Product Development Team on your behalf. This way, the feedback can be considered for a future update.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always around to lend a hand. Take care!
Thanks for the reply, but you didn't answer my Q1. Is there any value to matching if I plan to manually enter the charges (credit card, chks, etc) as they occur?
Allow me to chime in and answer your question, @rkmilalm.
That's actually a good question. Yes, there's still a value to matching transactions. Matched transactions are automatically marked as “cleared” in the register. Doing so, they'll appear with a checkmark next to them when you reconcile your account.
I'm also adding this article that might come in handy in the future: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.
I'm always here should you need help working with bank feeds, @rkmilalm. I'd be happy to help.
