My upload file ends with .qbo Why does quickbooks online respond with "The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file"?

My bank supports downloading transactions in QBO format. However, QuickBooks online doesn't recognize the file.

I can share a couple of steps and info to ensure you can upload the Webconnect file in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @user12839.

The following are the possible reason why you're having the said error message:

  • Incorrect file format.
  • The .QBO file from your bank isn't compatible with the ones in QuickBooks.
  • Browser-related issue to due piled up cache/cookies.

To help fix this, please ensure or check the file format to prevent unexpected error. Then, you can download it again from your bank's website, and re-upload it to QBO. For more info about the steps and the different supported file formats, please refer to this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

If the same thing happens, please log in to your account using a private window. This can help us determine if it's a browser-related issue due to stored cache. You can use the shortcut keys below to access one:

  • Ctrl+ Shift + N for Google Chrome A63.PNG.
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox A64.PNGand Microsoft Edge A65.PNG.
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari A66.PNG.

Once done, re-upload the said file to QBO. If it works this time, please clear your browser's cache to delete the piled up files that cause unusual QBO responses.

Then, go back to your regular browser and perform the normal task again. If the issue persists, you can use another supported browser instead.

If you run into some bank upload errors in the future, you can refer to this article for the steps to resolve them: Fix bank upload errors in QBO.

For good practice, you can categorize and match your transactions to ensure they go to the right accounts and prevent any duplicates. Then, you can reconcile your account to make sure your books are correct.

I'm always around to lend a hand if you have more questions about managing your files or banking in QBO. Just add your reply in the comment section and I'll get back to you as quickly as I can. Stay safe and have a great day.

Hello,

I've tried all these solutions and I am still having the same issue. Is there any other way to fix this? I also got on the phone with support and they were not able to assist.

Hello 4Gal,

Thank you for posting here in the Community space. I'm here to assist you with uploading bank transactions manually in QuickBooks Bank feeds.

QuickBooks Online allows importing bank statements in a CSV, QFX, QBO, OFX, or TXT format. I recommend reviewing the downloaded data from your bank to confirm the file format. Also, keep in mind the maximum file size is 350 KB.

If the file is too large, shorten the date range and download transactions in smaller batches. If you can't import despite having the correct format and performing troubleshooting steps, contact our QuickBooks Support Team.

This way, they can further check the issue in QuickBooks Online. Our support for Plus, Essentials, and Simple Start is available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday - Friday) and 6 AM - 3 PM PT (Saturday). For Advanced, any time, any day.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to the Assistant tab.
  3. Click Get help from a human.
  4. Choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

There are times when you're unable to import your banking data due to specific errors. I've attached an article you can use to learn if you have issues when you manually upload bank and credit card transactions into QuickBooks Online: Fix bank upload errors in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to post or interact about your QuickBooks concerns in this space. We're always available if you have additional questions about bank feeds or importing data. We'll be sure to get back to you.

Quickbooks support told me the issue is with Chase bank and they are working on it allegedly. I'd rather do .QBO file instead of CSV because the transactions can sometimes duplicate, I've noticed.

Hello, @yes5. It's good to hear that you are comfortable using .QBO file. When using a CSV file, just make sure to double-check your For review in QuickBooks Online and with your CSV transaction to avoid duplicates.

Check out the guides here if you need help with categorizing your transaction: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online

If you have other concerns besides importing transactions, don't hesitate to post them here in the community. Have a fabulous day!
