I have two bank registers on my Quickbooks desktop. I thought I changed everything to the new bank account. Unfortunately, when I enter a NSF check, it is posting it in the old bank account. I cannot close the older one yet and I cannot find where to change this in prefrences. Can anyone help!

Once you record a returned check from your customer, QuickBooks will generate a journal entry ( JE ) that marks the invoice payment as a bounced check. To correct this, access the JE and the payment. Then, change the bank account for both so the NSF check is allocated properly. Let me show you how:

The check forms all have an account at the top of the form for the bank account. Change it there.
Still, what's an "NSF check"? I've never heard of that as a QuickBooks thing.

I go to the customers account, click on the check payment that is a non-sufficient fund check, that takes me to when I receipted that check, then on the top of that has an icon to record it as a bounced check.
It is registering that bounced check in the customers account register correctly, but not in the correct bank account register. It is posting it in a bank account register that this company no longer uses, but I cannot close that register yet.
When the company moved to a new bank, I did enter in all the new information where it was needed.

A NSF check is a non-sufficient fund check. A bounced check.

Hi,
With your help, I did fix it but not with all the steps you gave me. I ended up deleting all the charges that I manually put in and did a general journal entry myself and with me typing in the correct bank account, it was placed in the correct bank register. I do not know why it put the original bounced check in the old bank register in the first place as I changed all the banking info when we switched banks.
In the future I will probably have to a general journal entry myself in order for it to be put in the correct register.
