QB21 Card Reader with QBDT on Mac OS

Can anyone give me some guidance on using my QB21 card reader with QBDT on Mac? I just moved everything from Windows to Mac and I can't figure out how to use my card reader.

I worked with Tech support previously on payment issues and they were supposed to send me a guide but I never received it.

QB21 Card Reader with QBDT on Mac OS

Hello, @BtrTch.

The QB21 Card Reader is compatible with QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and future versions via USB cable. The one that is compatible with QuickBooks Desktop for MAC is the Magtek USB Card Reader.

You can check these following articles for more information:

However, I still suggest reaching out to our Customer Support for Payments. They have the tools to further check if there's another way to connect this to your QuickBooks.

You can get their number by going to this article: Contact Payments Support

anyone able to use the QB21 with their Mac?  Other than the magtek card reader usb, is there any other reader that will provide chip and swipe?

Hello there, @totalauto.

Right now, QuickBooks Desktop only supports the Magtek card reader via USB and chip card reader. Also, these hardware peripherals are recommended to be plugged directly to a computer without the use of a USB hub or extension.

Also, I'd still recommend contacting our Payment Support Team. They're the best team that can verify if there's another reader that can provide chip and swipe for your business.

Here's the link to contact them: Contact Payments Support

Also, Community is a public forum and other users might respond to this thread and provide feedback about their experience with QB21 with their MAC. You can also read out the articles shared by my colleague about QB21 for more details.

I've also included this helpful article for ideas on how you can utilize the function of Magtek card reader: Install and use the USB Magtek card reader with a QuickBooks payments account.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help. Take care and have a good one!

QB21 Card Reader with QBDT on Mac OS

I purchased a contactless reader from Intuit after speaking with someone on the phone and told me that it works. We need a contactless reader for our office that works with QBO on our MacBook. We cannot get a direct answer from anyone whether this works with the MacBook or not?

I connect the reader to Bluetooth and it keeps dropping - this is a brand new MacBook so there are no corrupted files. I have called Intuit support and the person on the other end of the phone is trying to read the same articles I am reading online - how do I get a real answer with a senior level support person....

The card reader that you have works perfectly with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Wayne85.

For the reader to seamlessly work with QBO, we'll have to ensure first its compatibility first. Once done, we can now set up and use your Bluetooth card reader. I'll guide you how.

Before we proceed, I suggest plugging in your reader to charge the battery. When it's charged, pair it with the GoPayment app.

I recommend following the steps below based on the GoPayment app you have:

Green GoPayment app

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile device.
  2. Press and hold the button on the side of your card reader until it blinks green. This turns on your reader.
  3. Open the GoPayment app.
  4. Click More and then Hardware.
  5. Select Card Readers from the list.
  6. In the Type section, select Bluetooth.
  7. Make sure your card reader is on. Then select Add a new reader to start pairing.
  8. Choose the name of the card reader to pair it.

Blue GoPayment app

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile device.
  2. Press and hold the button on the side of your card reader until it blinks green. This turns on your reader.
  3. Open the GoPayment app.
  4. Tap Menu. Select Settings and then Card Reader.
  5. In the Type section, select Bluetooth.
  6. Make sure your card reader is on. Then select Add a new reader to start pairing.
  7. Select the name of the card reader in the My Card Readers section to pair it.

Once finished, you can start processing payments in the GoPayment app.

Additionally, to learn how to resolve some issues when connecting your reader, I encourage checking out this article: Fix Issues with the GoPayment and QuickBooks Mobile App Card Reader.
