Quickbook thinks I have a deleted transaction, but I see it as reconciled

I was cleaning up some accounts today and accidentally deleted a bank deposit from 2-1-2013 (or I thought it did).  I can see the transaction in the Journal entry for the Bank account where it was deposited.  It even has a checkmark next to it as if it had been cleared.  However, when I try to reconcile my bank account, I am off by the amount of the 'deleted' transaction.  The discrepancy report shows the amount of the transaction as the missing amount with the correct date of the transaction. I can see the deleted transaction in the Audit Log.  How can I fix this problem?  Obviously, I do not want to undo all of my reconciliations.  It doesn't make sense to me.

Quickbook thinks I have a deleted transaction, but I see it as reconciled

Hello, @reiddg.

I have here the solutions you can perform to fix your reconciliation in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm happy to share them with you.

First, you can re-enter the deleted transaction (same date and details) then manually reconcile it from the register. Second, you can undo the previous reconciliation and redo it or ignore the discrepancy and let QuickBooks enter an offsetting adjustment.

To recreate the deposit:

  1. Select Make Deposits from the Banking tab.
  2. Fill in the necessary details from the Make Deposits window, then tap on Save and Close to record the transaction.

To reconcile the deposit manually:

  1. Click on Use Register from the Banking page.
  2. Choose the desired account under the Use Register window, then hit OK.
  3. Look for the deposit created from there, check the box beside the Payment and Deposit column to mark it as cleared.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

If you want to undo the previous reconciliation and redo it or simply ignore the discrepancy and let QuickBooks enter an offsetting adjustment, you can refer the steps from this article: Fix beginning balance issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

I did as you instructed, but I am still off by the previously deleted amount.  I don't want to go back to 2013 to fix this. There must be a way.

Hi there, @reiddg.

You'll need to undo those reconciled deposits and then do a mini reconciliation to fix the current period.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking tab, then select Reconcile.
  2. Choose the appropriate account from the Account drop-down.
  3. Enter the statement date and ending balance.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. In the Deposits and Other Credits section, select the corresponding Journal Entry. Note: The amount shown for the Difference should now be zero.
  6. Hit Reconcile Now.
