QuickBooks Cash -Can I use the same  bank account and the same QuickBooks Payments and  Merchant Account  for QuickBooks Online  that is currently used for QBDT

Can I use the same  bank account and the same QuickBooks Payments and  Merchant Account  for QuickBooks Online  that is currently used for QBDT ? In a  two person firm, one person uses QBDT and the would like to use QBO for the Timesheet, billing and having the customer pay online by clicking the QBO invoice. they prefer not to record time and bill thru QBDT.

They currently have QuickBooks Payments with a Merchant Account  connected to QB Desktop.

I spoke to support and they believe(not 100% sure)  its possible.

In QBO, when i go to settings/payments I get the option to use an Existing Account. It says " If you already have a Payments account with Intuit (you may know it as GoPayment or Merchant Services), connect it to your QuickBooks."

Please advise

Hello there, @slennerqbo

Thank you for posting here in the Community. It's my priority to help ensure your personal information is secured.

If you signed up for QuickBooks Payments from a different QuickBooks product, no problem. Here's how to connect your payments account so you can process payments in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can only use one QuickBook Payments account for one company file at a time in QuickBooks Desktop. Follow these same steps to connect your payments account to a different company file.

Connect your payments account, here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to the Customers menu.
  2. Select Link Payment Service to Company File. If you see a message about credit card protection, fill out the fields and select OK.
  3. Enter the user ID and password you used to sign up for QuickBooks Payments. Then select Sign In.
  4. Select Connect. Or if you're transferring your payments account to another company file, select Transfer and then Yes, transfer.

After you connect your account, you'll see an icon on the homepage. This tells you you're signed in and connected to QuickBooks Payments.

Please click on this link for more details: Connect your QuickBooks Payments account to QuickBooks Desktop.

if you can't connect please contact QB PAyments, I'd suggest contacting our Merchant Services Team. They can pull up your account and check the status of your deposit. Click this link to get out contact info: Contact Payments Support

For other payment-related questions, we encourage you to review some of our commonly asked Payments questions.

I'm always around to answer any additional questions you have or help you with deposits. Thanks.

Thank you  for the prompt response. Sorry if I was not clear.  I would like to  connect  my  existing payments account( that is used for QBDT) for Company A,  so i  can process payments in QuickBooks Online, also  for Company A.

Hello, Sandy!

I have a short answer to your question.

We can only link a QuickBooks Payments / Merchant account to one QuickBooks company. Therefore, if you link yours to QBO, you will no longer be able to use it in QuickBooks Desktop. Please refer to this article: Link your company to an existing payments account - the first paragraph.

On the other hand, you can apply for another account for the other QuickBooks company.

If you have other questions about your merchant account, feel free to go back to this thread.
