My client's bank export shows up in QuickBook's Bank Feed Transactions with a lot of the same entries like "Point of Sale Debit".
To see what the transaction is, you have to check "Show Bank Memo". With this feature column I see a lot of transactions which can be easily managed by Rules. But when I make a rule based on this bank memo, the rule is not applied.
I made a Test Rule based on the "Downloaded As" data. Only then is the rule is applied, as shown here:
The Edit Rule modal dialog box doesn't allow you to select from where the text match is made ("Downloaded As", or "Bank Memo") and instead only has this feature named "Description":
If you look inside the QBO file, there isn't anything labeled "Description". Just NAME and MEMO:
<STMTTRN>
<TRNTYPE>DEP
<DTPOSTED>20221121000000[-5:EST]
<TRNAMT>1971.00
<FITID>1952...
<NAME>DDA ACH Deposit
<MEMO>Citizens NET SETLMT Citizens NET SETLMT
</STMTTRN>
How do I create a rule which handles MEMO??

You can create a rule in Advanced Mode to easily match those entries in your client's bank. With the Advanced mode, QuickBooks will separate your transactions into 3 categories (Recognized, Partially recognized, and Unrecognized) based on the information gathered from your transactions and in the system.
To create a rule using Advanced mode, follow the steps below:
Also, in the Edit Rule dialog box, you can select Categories to help you classify the transactions. Then, select a specific account to complete the rule. Just, click the Rename drop-down arrow.

Ok. Both replies are very helpful; however, since I didn't even know there was an "Advanced Mode", or how to get there, I will mark this as the most helpful answer in my situation. For anyone new to QBE, both answers are very informative.
That said, for the one client who is new, Advanced Mode is very useful. For other clients who I've been working with for some time and have rules in the ol boring mode, I just discovered you need to recreate all of your old rules. So, YMMV
Hi! I switched to advanced banking. However, the bank memo is not showing up whenever I run the P&L Detail. This is my way of checking
Hanjali, I'm delighted to have you in the thread. I'd be happy to provide you with information or assist you with this matter.
I'd like to know if you created bank rules that prevent showing your bank feed memo. If none, let's verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop. It identifies the most commonly known data issues within a company file and then resolves the most data integrity issues discovered by Verify Data.

Any report generated by QuickBooks Desktop can be customized. You can modify the data, add or delete columns, edit the details in the header and footer, and even change the font and style of the report. Then, if you want the customized report's settings to be available for future use, you may memorize it to save you from having to repeat the process.

User @TaxCatSC did some liking or wot-wot and this year-old post popped up in my inbox.
Now that I've been using Advanced mode with this client file for over a year, I have to say there is one feature of the "old" mode that keeps me from changing a few other clients.
For some reason, when I edit unmatched transactions to assign an account, I can't type more than two digits of the account number before pattern matching fails and QB says: "Error: This is the wrong type for this field...". This is very much unlike "old" mode, when I could type the actual account number, such as 9780 and instantly get `9780 · Travel`--very efficient. And, I could arrow to the next transaction and enter the next account number--also very efficient.
The only efficient way to assign an account in "Advanced mode" is to type the account name. Since the whole P&L is a tree structure, and everything has a parent account, typing "travel" ends on the first match: 9000 · Admin & General Expenses:9775 · Travel & Entertainment rather than going the full distance past this parent label to it's child node: 9000 · Admin & General Expenses:9775 · Travel & Entertainment:9780 · Travel.
What's more, you can't use the arrow keys to move to the next transaction. Instead the arrow moves to the next account of the selected transaction's account field, which is actually obscured because the form field is too small (too few characters) to display the full account path.
