About 3 years ago my secondary Amex card, linked to the primary Amex card stopped downloading bank transactions. I have the same two card setup with Chase and it works. About 3-4 months QBO stopped downloading USAA bank transactions. I have four USAA accounts. The only way to get them to update is to "Save and Disconnect" each account every time I want to download, and then reconnect them noting the last download date to prevent duplicates. Different browsers, Incognito Mode, a different computer all the same. The bank websites work perfectly. The problem is QBO. I have written in for help many times since the Amex debacle. I had to stop using the secondary Amex card. I am a self employed one person company. I have figured out for the one time cost of QB Desktop, I can migrate from QBO to Desktop, and then migrate to Xero, Sage, Freshbooks, etc. What say you Intuit, will you fix it?
Hello there, adrask1n.
Did you receive an error when trying to download bank transactions? Bank errors can often block QuickBooks from downloading recent transactions. You can check out Step 4 on this article and select the bank error that you're prompted with: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online.
If you get the same issue, I recommend contacting us so we can open a case and further investigate the issue. Here's how to contact us:
You can also click this link for more info on our support hours and types.
Meanwhile, you can manually upload bank transactions into the system.
I'll be here if you need anything else. Just mention me and keep me posted on how this works. Take care!

Utilize the trial version of SlickConnect to isolate the issue. If the same error persists, there is an ongoing problem at your bank.

Thank you for the response. There is no bank error. If you can read my threads going back in time, I have contacted support many times with always the same response from them, "It is the bank.". As I have written many times, the bank websites work perfectly, Amex & USAA, and their support engineers advise they have nothing to do with QBO. In all instances, QBO was working until a QBO update went in, or the bank updated security. In one support case with QBO that I have previously written about, it took me 30 hours to track down and replicate that problem. I had connected Bank A to Bank B through their websites to transfer funds A to B, and B to A. It caused QBO to download twice. With USAA, one of my four accounts auto downloads, the other three fail, no error. The account that works changes randomly between the four USAA accounts. The second linked Amex card failed to download transactions after a large QBO update. It has never worked since. The problem is QBO, not the bank.
Hi there, adrask1n.
As an initial troubleshooting step, let's perform a few manual updates to refresh the connection between your bank and QuickBooks Online.
Here's how:
Also, disconnecting a bank account is also helpful if QuickBooks Online won't reconnect even after clicking Update several times.
If the same thing happens, I would suggest contacting again our customer support team. They have the tools to take a look at your account and verify what causes the unexpected behavior.
Here's how:
In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about the steps you need to take if issues on updating your online transactions occur: What to do if you see a bank error or bank transactions won’t download.
I've also included this helpful article in case you need a reference in reviewing, categorizing, and matching your online bank transactions: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
If there are any other concerns that you may have, feel free to ask. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Have a great day!
Today my USAA Visa auto downloaded bank transactions but my three bank accounts did not. Which of the four accounts will download is random on any given day. The problem is most probably caused by multiple accounts and 2FA. This a QBO problem, not the bank. I disconnect/reconnect each account one by one and it works, until next time. I have given up on Amex ever downloading transactions from the linked secondary card. 2FA is also enabled on my Amex.
Today one of my three USAA bank accounts auto downloaded bank transactions. The remaining two bank accounts and one credit card account did not. I will click to disconnect each of the other accounts and then reconnect them, one at a time, noting the date of the last transaction download. This is likely linked to 2FA and multiple accounts. Same problem with Amex 2FA and two linked credit cards.
Hey adrask1n,
Thanks for chiming back in on the thread and providing that update. It would be best to contact our Support Team and provide these updates so they can investigate the matter further or escalate the case. Please follow the steps my colleagues gave about connecting with us above.
Please let me know how the conversation goes! I will be here, and I hope you have a great day!
Opening another ticket with QBO support continues to be a waste of time. They will continue to blame the bank or my web browser. The bank website works perfectly, and I have tested by clearing the cache, Incognito, different browsers, different computers, and with the QBO app. I am still unable to download USAA transactions for my four accounts without disconnecting them one by one and reconnecting them noting the date of the last synch to avoid dupes. Then I open the bank website to confirm the QBO bank balances match. For years now I have also been unable to download American Express transactions on my second Amex card that is linked to the first card. I have never experienced a company, QBO, so arrogant and incompetent. My only hope is the QBO competitors read this and make it easy for QBO customers to migrate. For QBO customers, you first have to buy, install, and migrate to QB Desktop to extract your data and then migrate to another vendor without losing your history.

You don't need to convert data to QBD. Utilize a migration tool or purchase a 3d party conversion service.
