Hello Keith,
We're unable to create .txf file in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, we can pull your data through reports and export them to Excel.
You can use this article for reference: How to Export Reports to Excel.
Then, you can search an Excel to .txf converter online.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Thats's disappointing,
So then a out of all the different reports, which one do I want to convert to a TXF?
Bal Sheet, P & L, GL... ? All of them.
The whole reason I used QB and Turbo tax was the inferred seamless connection.
I feel deceived.
I am having the same issue and don't understand why you guys haven't worked on making this easier. I bought quickbooks and turbotax thinking that it would save me time come tax time. It clearly doesn't. This is a mess. I'm very very disappointed and will think about whether I want to renew my quickbooks online license next year. Just doesn't make sense that this can't be done in a less convoluted way...
This is the second strike - moving from QuickBooks Self Employed to Quickbooks Online was painful enough - who's thinking about the consumer when you design these products?
This is completely unexpected (well not really from Intuit, but from any other company...) Guys, it's 2019.
You've got to figure this out. I'm going to try to make this work with a trial membership of Quickbooks Desktop - if it doesn't work, I'm going to swear off Inuit software forever. Too many hours of my life wasted & that's not partnership.
Greetings ChiralLogic,
First and foremost, I want you to know that your voice matters and I completely agree with what you've said. There should be a more seamless way to move the data from one QuickBooks version to another.
This isn't the impression that I'd like for you to be left with. The updates and changes to QuickBooks are largely the results of feedback provided by users, just like yourself. That said, I'm making it my top priority that your feedback reaches our Product Development Team and make them understand the urgency of this matter. After all, enhancements and improvements to QuickBooks functionalities are largely the results of feedback provided by users.
Lastly, I appreciate you giving the trial version of QuickBooks Desktop a shot. Please touch base with me here in the Community if there's any way I can help with your success. I'll be here to help you out!
Totally agree! What a disaster. I figured the since turbotax and qb are made by the same company, my tax season would be a breeze and at the click of a button I could import all of my qb data into my turbotax. I'm extremely disappointed that that's not the case at all. Instead, this is a nightmare to deal with trying to export from qb online and then having to convert the files to .txf to import to turbotax all while trying not to completely delete everything. Two thumbs down for intuit on this one!
Hi, TT22.
Thank you for drpping by. Allow me provide a little information about creating a .txf file via the QuickBooks Online.
I can definitely see how this feature would be useful. As a team with a massive roadmap, we have to pick new features based on the value they’ll add to the most users possible.
I can pass along all the feedback you have to the appropriate channels so you're able to reach a point of resolution as quickly as possible.

what if you don't have excel?
i am trying to convert quickbooks desktop 2018 for mac to turbo tax for mac home and business.
need to convert a qb to a txf file.
the only reason i got qb a few months ago was to help with my taxes. qb has been nothing but a struggle so far.
in the end I gave up - and got an accountant. This Roadmap stuff is fantastic but incredibly behind the times, especially given the prominence of TurboTax and QuickBooks.
It turns out that my accountant can't even automatically download my accounting information from QuickBooks - as discussed in this thread they do the importing via excel.
Seems like the emperor has no clothes - where are the Intuit marketing people? Do they have any influence or say over IT designer implementation plans?
Talk about a company preparing the meal so another company can come in and eat their lunch...
Based on the other comments, seems like we should be using Quicken? Even when using TurboTax they mention Quicken in regards to the TXF file when you click "learn more". This is unimaginable that the two pieces of software wouldn't talk to each other.
After much research and many hours wasted with manual entry, I'm staggered that Intuit has no way for QBO to export tax information into TurboTax. This is very disappointing, and has shaken my confidence in Intuit's commitment to small business owners.
Hello,
I receive this message when I follow the link to start a Desktop trial. Is there a reason why this method will fail?
Note: You can't register a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop. If you try to register or activate these products, the validation will fail and you'll be locked out.
Intuit has always been awful like this. Too many products. No focus. Very expensive. They lie on self employed and say they give you access to Turbotax, but in reality, you still have to pay for the highest level Turbotax anyway, and you still have to enter all of the information by hand.
This is insane, and broken. There is absolutely no excuse for QBO lacking the functionality of exporting a TXF file for import into TurboTax. Who do you think buys your products? Why do you think they buy your products? I've been a TurboTax user for years. Just started my own business - am coughing up the $20/month for QBO and now come to find out at Tax time that the two Inuit products don't work together. Are you kidding me?! This sucks.
agreed, I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with this piece of junk, their accounting software, can't even communicate with THEIR tax program, what a bunch of clowns!
This is utter BULLS***! Only able to export data on a Windows machine? REALLY??? That is flat out ridiculous. What planet do you guys live on?? Get with it. This is the last and only year I'll use your BS software. You're costing me even more money having to hire a tax accountant now.
- An overworked, overly frustrated small business owner.
Just adding my outrage to the growing list. A little added punishment for putting this off for as long as I did, but this is just another example of the usual indifferent

lameness that I have come to expect as a Mac and Quickbooks user. Once I get this off my plate, will be seeking another vehicle for which to address my accounting needs. Ridiculous.
I feel cheated as well. I even talked to a sales person on the phone and told them what I am looking for and they sold me a plan without revealing these details. Very disappointed.
I hope the Intuit staff review these comments. I went through the same thing and it was a major hassle (as if doing taxes is a day at the beach to begin with, this really didn't help make it any easier).
The point I would make to Intuit is that - you should not launch a software on one platform if you cannot offer it in the same functionality on another platform. It is not a consistent or transparent way of operating. What it says is that Intuit is partial to Windows users and the Mac users can just go to h*ll and fall by the wayside. Is that really the rapport you want to create with your Mac customers? I didn't think so. Please resolve this and don't make the mistake again!

QuickBooks desktop versions (all of them) interface with TurboTax.
By the 3rd or 4th TurboTax screen, you will get asked "Do you use QB desktop?" answer yes, and it asks you if you would like to import the data. If you have a few accounts not mapped to tax lines, it asks you where they go. Otherwise, everything gets imported seamlessly.
I won't switch to QBO because it has so many limitations...like only being able to export with properly formatted excel spreadsheets...who has time for that?!? I'll stick with desktop
I am also going through a need to have txf file and I am using Turbo Tax. I can't believe that Intuit is the same company for both but yet they can't figure out a way for online software to communicate with desktop version. I should be able to push one button and have the data exchanged between the two. This is a much needed feature and I think it should be escalated to the priority list of future developments if your goal is to make life easier for your customers.
Your feedback will help us to stay in tune with what our customers need, want, and expect, Sitora.
I definitely know how this feature would be helpful to your business. Though, having this feature would greatly boost the productivity and efficiency of running your business.
To meet the rising business demands, we often roll out updates based on the request that we received from the users. Rest assured, I'm going to personally share your feedback with our Product Development Team for consideration.

If you need additional help in completing your task with QuickBooks, please don't think twice to post your questions here. The community will always have your back.
Aldrin,
Thanks for taking this issue seriously. This is a huge misstep on Intuit's part. We all buy both products so that there is seamless integration. All we should have to do in TurboTax is say, "Import Tax Data from Quickbooks", and it should recognize who we are and grab a TXF file. If that can't be done, the system could ask for our Quickbooks credentials.
For those of us running multiple businesses with Quickbooks, it would need to recognize this and ask which one should be imported. TurboTax should then have all it needs to create the Schedule "C's".
Not being able to do this, is something I would have expected to hear from Intuit in the early 80's when I became a customer. Please resolve this quickly so we don't have to print the reports from Quickbooks and hand enter the numbers into TurboTax.
