Chart of Accounts

I understand that you would like to start over and set up your Chart of Accounts differently from how you initially began, Wade Mask. Don't worry. I can help you with that process.

For QuickBooks Online (QBO) data that is less than 60 days old, users of QuickBooks Online Plus, Essentials, and Advanced can perform an account purge. This action will result in the deletion of all data entered into the company, and it's important to note that this process is irreversible, meaning the data cannot be restored or reversed once purged.

To purge the data, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. Example: URL shows https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, change to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will provide a summary of the items to be deleted.
  5. Type the word “YES” once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

Please refer to this article for further details: Delete your data and start over in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, you can create your custom template and import it into your QBO account. To assist you in the process, you can download a sample file for the chart of accounts as a reference. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Gear icon, then select Import data.
  3. Select the Chart of accounts.
  4. In the Import accounts window, click the Download a sample file link.

Just in case you want to learn about the usage limits, like accounts, you can check out this article for more information: Learn about usage limits in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you so much! I have so much other stuff set up. Is there a way to just purge the COA? Thanks in advance.

Chart of Accounts

Keeping your Chart of Accounts (COA) organized is my priority, Wade Mask.

At this time, there's no way to purge a chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, you can make the account inactive one at a time. When we inactivate accounts, it only means that they are not in use.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts under Your Company.
  3. Find the account you want to inactivate.
  4. Click the arrow icon under the ACTION column.
  5. Select Make inactive.

Let me know in the comments if you have other concerns about managing accounts in your chart of accounts in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success.
