Citizens Bank integration no longer supported?

I can no longer download transactions to Quickbooks online from Citizens Bank. Today, Citizens Bank customer support told me that Citizens no longer supports Quickbooks integration. Do you know if this is true? Is this a permanent change?

Citizens Bank integration no longer supported?

I understand the importance of seamless integration for your financial management needs, heliosdg.

QuickBooks Online relies on financial institutions to provide access to transaction data and facilitate connection. At this time, we haven't received any official updates regarding the discontinuation of Citizens Bank's integration.

Changes to compatibility and policies can occasionally occur due to adjustments made by banks or technology providers. However, without direct confirmation from them, we can't verify the accuracy of the information you received.

For now, I recommend checking their communication channels for any announcements. Additionally, we'll keep an eye out for any updates from our end.

To obtain your latest available transactions, you'll want to consider manually importing them into the program. Once done, please refer to these articles for guidance on the categorization and reconciliation process:

If you have further questions about bank feeds or need assistance with other aspects of QBO, just let me know by adding a reply below. I'm always here to support you.

@heliosdg

You can use MT Online or one of the converter tools (e.g csv2qbo @ $60 one time license) as a workaround.

We can't get it to work either.  Quickbooks blames Citizens and Citizens blames Quickbooks.  When I try to connect I get this error:

Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://www1.citizensbankonline.com/" on this server.

Thanks for raising your banking concern here in the Community, MLCBookkeeper.

I want to ensure this matter is addressed quickly, so you can connect your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and keep your financial data updated.

For the time being, we have an ongoing issue (INV-92288) where customers like you experienced a permission error (108) while connecting Citizens Bank to QBO. Rest assured that this issue is currently being worked on with utmost urgency.

In keeping with this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team to add your account to the list of affected users. This ensures you're in the loop about the investigation's status and its fix. To do this, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message/Chat or Get a callback/Callback).

Additionally, I encourage you to reconcile your accounts in QBO regularly (every month). This helps monitor your income and expenses and detect any possible errors accordingly. You may want to check out this article as your guide in doing and fixing reconciliations in QBO: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

If there's anything else you need or you have other banking concerns and questions about managing transactions in QBO, I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, MLCBookkeeper.

I was told by a support person that Citizens is no longer supporting the direct connect. We are looking at switching banks.

Citizens Bank integration no longer supported?

Citizens Bank has a larger issue that started when Citizens Bank launched their new online platform in June/July of 2023.  The Data Mapping identifiers being used for the "Transaction Types" in the .QBO files do not match the requirements of QuickBooks.  I was able to manually change the transaction type from "DEPOSIT" to "DEP" and the file imported into QuickBooks without any problem. Before I made the correction I kept getting the "Error Code: OL-222".  There are other data mapping errors, but this is the sample I used to see if I could correct the issue on an existing file. I have tried reaching out to Citizens Bank to get the issue resolved, but I do not know how to raise the issue to the correct department at Citizens Bank.  Everyone I reach out to brushes me off, and I think it is because they do not know how to escalate the issue or think I am mistaken.  I am an accountant and I use QuickBooks all the time for myself and my clients, so I am confident there is an error on the Financial Institution Data Mapping.

How do you change a text file back to .qbo?

also did you find an issue with the & symbol?

I'm dealing with this issue today. No luck with customer support. Yikes. I have no idea how to change files as you described. This is my punishment for waiting until the last minute of my tax extension- ugh

I was able to right click the .qbo file and "open with" the Notepad program.  Then I made the changes and saved the file.  It remains a .qbo file, and then you can just import into Quickbooks the same way you normally do.  The problem is if you have a lot of transactions in the download it can be labor intensive.  Let me know how you make out with it.

The solution I am looking at right now is probably going to be downloading the data as a .csv file, then using Open Office or Excel to sort categorize the income and expenses for the timeframe I need.  Once I have the summarized data I will make a Journal Entry into Quickbooks so I can get my P&L and Balance Sheets for the year.  Not as good as the .qbo import into Quickbooks, but still better than manually recording every transaction.

This is not the impression we want you to experience with Online banking, LiddyD33, and ES_Tax.

We appreciate you for contacting our Customer Support Team to better isolate this banking issue. May I know if you encounter an error message when connecting Citizens Bank in QuickBooks Online (QBO)? This helps me check on my end if there's an investigation about your financial institution.

On the other hand, if you're trying to manually upload bank transactions, your bank may offer a few file formats. If possible, choose the QuickBooks Online data (QBO) format. These are formatted specifically for QBO. You can also upload transactions from a CSV or Quicken (QFX) file. Just check out this article for the steps and details to get transactions from your bank: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online

Just in case the issue persists where you can no longer download transactions from Citizens Bank, please reach out to the Customer Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  2. Select the Search tab.
  3. Click the Contact Us button.
  4. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message/Chat or Get a callback/Callback).

Moreover, I'm adding this article that tackles reconciliation to ensure your account is balanced and accurate: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

I've got your back if you have more questions about managing your banking transactions. Just leave a comment below and I'll be back.

QB Support,

Can you tell us what fields need to be manually adjusted in notepad so the qbo file will upload?  I understand that trying to fix this is a huge problem, but if the users know what the issues are (changing the word Deposit to DEP) we can do it on our own.  Put some power back into the users hands.  It is not feasible for most businesses to manually import the transactions.

What other changes need to be made within Notepad besides Deposit to DEP?

You don't need to manually adjust the fields in your QBO file to upload in QuickBooks Online (QBO), VBPB. I'll share more details about this below.

Before we start, I'd like to verify your bank's name and if you encounter an error message while trying to upload transactions in QBO. This way, I can check for any product investigations and provide you with the appropriate fix.

The QuickBooks Online data (QBO) is already formatted specifically for QBO. Thus, you should be able to upload it directly into your account even without making any adjustments to its fields.

Before you upload, review the QBO file and make sure it's in the correct format. Then, please note that the maximum file size is 350 KB. If the file is too big, shorten the date range and download transactions in smaller batches.

You can check out this article for the complete guide in manually importing transactions in QBO: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Once everything is all set, I'd encourage you to reconcile your accounts regularly (every month) to monitor your income and expenses and detect any possible errors accordingly. You may want to check out this article as your guide in doing and fixing reconciliations in QBO: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

I'm all ears if you need further assistance uploading bank transactions in QBO. You can add your comment below, and I'll gladly help.

It is Citizens Banks and this is an ongoing issue since the bank did an upgrade a few months ago.  I do not use QB Online so I cannot upload a csv file.

This is not a situation of user error, it is a financial institution formatting error.  QuickBooks must have a process where a financial institution could send them a sample data set of a .qbo file to make sure the mapping is formatted correctly.  If someone at QuickBooks could do this with the Tech people at Citizens Bank then I think they would identify the problem very quickly (and hopefully correct it).

the .csv file will not integrate with QuickBooks directly, it is just a bandaid fix until Citizens fixes their .qbo formatting.  .csv is a "Comma Separated Value" file and can be used directly with excel or open office to categorize expenses that you could manually enter summary data into your QuickBooks company file.

Easy enough, right?  It's amazing they can't figure it out.

It is so frustrating that I cannot get the ear of the correct person at Citizens Bank so they can get the corrections implemented.  I have tried reaching out to multiple departments of Citizens Banks customer support, reached out to my local branch, nobody seems to be able to get the attention of the Citizens Bank IT department.

Hi, VBPB. I understand the frustration that arises when you encounter difficulties uploading your bank transactions into QuickBooks. Allow me to provide you with further information on this matter.

QuickBooks is dependent on the data transmitted by your financial institution. You may contact your bank and ask for a .qbo. file. I'll walk you through the steps to upload your transaction to your QuickBooks Desktop account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Import and then Web Connect Files.
  3. Locate the .qbo file you want to upload and select it.
  4. Click Open to start the import process.
  5. QuickBooks will prompt you to select the bank or credit card account to which you want to import the transactions.
  6. Review the transactions in the import preview window. Ensure they are correct and match your bank or credit card statement.
  7. Click Continue to complete the import process.
  8. QuickBooks will import the transactions from the .qbo file into the selected account.

Also, ensure you're in Classic Mode

After successfully uploading the transactions, you can match them accordingly.

If you need additional questions on this matter, you can post them below. I'll be sure to assist you more.

Exactly! The first customer service rep I spoke to said they had a "glitch" but they were working on it. I said a glitch as in today or something going on for weeks or months?!? I was transferred to a manager who said they know of the issue and are "actively" working on it. At this point I could tell Citizens was not going to have it fixed in the timeframe I needed. After spending one day trying to figure out what the heck I'm going to do with an entire year of bank statements to enter (ugh, idiotic on my part I know) I ended up paying for docu-clipper ($99 for the version I got) It took a few tries to figure it out but I'm half-way done and fingers crossed will finish by my Sept 10th deadline to get to the account. Ahhhhh!

This Citizens Bank ssue is frustrating!  I did a workaround by downloading the Citizens data as an CSV?Excel file.  Then split into debit and credits on separate tabs.  Then I copied and posted the information into Batch Enter transactions.  Clunky but better then entering everything manually.  Glad I only have client who still uses Citizens Bank
