Citizens is truly a disaster and an incredible embarrassment to commercial banking. Depending on the platform you're on, you might not even get ACH details in the feed. Their Access Optima feed does have everything, but still no automated QBO integration. And to make matters worse, the downloaded QBO file is now not working, although i suspect this is also a QB issue. Downloading CSV is a royal pain. The dates need to be reformatted, description fields need to be trimmed, and the description fields are messed up. We were with Investors Bank, who were acquired by Citizens. Investors had a perfect QB feed. While they informed us that there was no automated QBO connection, they didn't tell us how awful the feed would be.
I was able to fix the QBO file with a text editor to get it to import.
Basically the <TRNTYPE> should be: DEBIT or CREDIT
Any other <TRNTYPE> creates the error.
I tried that and it still doesn't import. I don't even get an error; it just says that it imports but no transactions are there. Any other tips?
BTW, i tried using a 3rd party importer at the recommendation of QB. I used SaasAnt. They don't support bank file imports, just bank statement imports. So don't try that. I wasted another bazillion hours figuring that out.
CSV works, but you need to change the date format (Citizens does not put leading zeros so it's 9/1/2023). Citizens Transaction Description field is useless, so you need to create a concatenated field with check number and the transaction detail if you want to use rules in QB. I also have to trim the fields because Citizen's ACH details contain tons of spaces. What a ridiculous amount of work, when all you had to do before was hit update in Quickbooks.
We have really gone backwards.
Have you explored csv2qbo converter tool? It's $60 one time license.

Done with Citizens and their lies!!!
I spent over an hour with Quickbooks level 2 support with the OL-222 error message. They tried everything and said it was definitely a Citizens issue.
I have spoke with Citizens for the past two months almost weekly and given the same crap.
I'm done------Closing out all my business accounts and moving to TD. This is just not worth the problems.
Good Bye Citizens
I tried several find/replace and this still didn't work. I took the time to go down the TXT file to find all TRNTYPE and changed them to either DEBIT or CREDIT and that didn't work. I tried MoneyThumb to convert from pdf statement to qbo. This didn't work as it said it created 83 transactions (in MoneyThumb) but those transaction didn't show up in QB. Even though it said WebConnect imported ok.
At this point, I am contacting my clients to leave Citizens, as increasing accounting fees to accommodate the increase in time for manual entry is not an option for most of them.
I'm replying to my previous post this morning.
For MoneyThumb, I finally got it to work. However, I will be chatting with them as it should be an easy fix on their end since they created the software.
The file MoneyThumb creates doesn't download anything into QB (Web Connect says import was successful. But nothing actually downloads). So I compared the TXT files (original QB file downloaded from my bank and MoneyThumb converted file). MoneyThumb adds tabs to their columns that QB doesn't read. How did I test this? I copied the MoneyThumb QB TXT file into an Excel spreadsheet, went through the tedious task of removing the tabs, line by line, and copied it back into the QB TXT file MoneyThumb originally created. Went to Bank Feeds and imported that file. I FINALLY have successfully imported the bank statement from Citizens Bank! TWO WASTED DAYS!!!! Granted there is some work to do in QB Bank Feeds since Payees have to be added
Now if MoneyThumb can correct the tab issue, I am all set...albeit, $25 per month cost until I can get my client to a new bank.
When I was finally successful I had to make sure there are no & symbols in any of the transactions. Also some of the names of the payee or vendor were too long. There would be spaces after that you couldn't see. I shortened all the names and that also helped.
1. No & symbols
2. all transaction types debit or credit
3. Shorten the names
4. each trn has to have its own number. Citizens were downloading as unknown instead had to be replaced. I used yyyymmdd then added 0 then 1 etc. to the end. This can be more easily done in excel

I'm using beyond compare to look at qbo files that worked without the OL-22 error vs now. It looks like they changed the <TRNTYPE>DEP to <TRNTYPE>DIRECT DEPOSIT. When I did this and tried to import I'm still getting the OL-222 error. Any additional help would be appreciated
Thanks!
This looks great. When coding debit or credit for trntype do the words need to be capitalized or is there any other formatting? I'm assuming money in is credit and money out is debit since it's from the banks point of view. Let me know if that needs to be flipped.
It's still not working for me after making your changes but I'm hoping I am just doing something wrong that is simple and can be easily fixed.
I used all DEBIT or CREDIT and didn't go further into other transaction types. It just made it easier for me not to make an error
I used caps but not sure if it makes a difference. And yes debit out credit in. The transaction numbers were what messed me up the most and the length of each line. I don't work in the office I'm a teacher and so this on the side. If I'm able to find the code I used I'll upload it.

What platform do you have at Citizens. I was assured by Citizens that it was there people and they are working on it, although QB took a backseat to Netsuite integration
I use the AccessOptima platform and was finally able to import my QBO tbat k downloaded Sunday for the past couple weeks.
Sorry. I was typing that on my phone. This time without typos

Did you have to pay extra for this optima platform? If I walk into a branch will they be able to help me get it setup or is best to call citizens support? I can’t believe it’s taken this long to resolve.
Hello there, @Jocko62. I appreciate you for joining this thread.

They don't help at the branch and the customer service is no help either. Everyone is aware of the issue and the customer service reps are just told to say they are working on it.
Yup . I’m just finding out about this citizens bank integration problem with the bank feed and I have 10 months of bookkeeping that I intended to do over a couple weeks to get caught up and now - I’m a tad worried ! I’m reading nobody is getting anywhere with this problem so I’m really not up to dealing with Citizens and them playing “ Mickey the dope “ ! If anyone can explain in layman terms how to make the text changes in CSV file that might help . Not gonna lie - I’m completely perplexed by most of this thread .
We want you to come across a different kind of experience than this, LMag1104.
As much as I want to help resolve your concerns with Citizen's Bank as soon as possible, the best we can do now is to contact your bank's support team. They have a specific tool to check your account and verify this issue further.

ITS WORKING! For the heck of it today I tried to import and was able to import bank feeds for both of my accounts
