I have been in the major process of cleaning up my Quickbooks Desktop for Mac file. I un-reconciled my Business Credit Card from Citi back to it's beginning. When I try to reconcile, the reconcile has a negative beginning balance. This is not accurate. The statement clearly reflects $0.00 as my opening balance in its first month of May, 2016. I have printed my register from 2016 through March, 2021 and painstakingly verified every transaction by hand, and it is in balance. However, Quickbooks Desktop for Mac is trying to force me to enter an opening balance to balance out the "previous" balance that is non-existent. Is there a work around for this? There is no way for me to enter / edit the opening balance to $0.00 under the Charts of Accounts.
Nevemind, I am an idiot. I had a transaction checked as cleared when obviously it hadn't been unchecked during the unreconciliations
Hi there, @RBlazer.
Allow me to share some details to correct your reconciliation beginning balance issue in QuickBooks Desktop Mac.
The beginning balance will be incorrect if a previously cleared transaction in your register was voided, deleted, or changed, or a new transaction was added and cleared since your last reconciliation. You can run several reports to find reconciliation discrepancies. These are the following reports that you may need to check:
To know more about the process, you can refer to this article: Find reconciliation discrepancies (Mac).
Once done figuring out what caused the discrepancy, you can do a special or mini-reconciliation to correct your opening balance. It's a process that uses an "off-cycle" reconciliation date to make a correction. Here's an article for your reference: Reconcile bank and credit card accounts (Mac).
I'd also recommend contacting your accountant to ensure your books are accurate.
