After speaking with customer support, I disconnected my accounts from Direct Connect and changed to Web Connect, and then it worked to manually download the .qbo files from my bank and open them in Quickbooks Desktop Mac. But only worked for 2 months. After that, I can't open .qbo files for any of my accounts. I get this error:
QuickBooks was not able to complete your request.
Please contact your financial institution.

I've done plenty of troubleshooting, including creating a new Test company account and editing the .qbo file to remove errant characters and such. Tried every remedy I could find on this forum. No luck. I even downloaded just one single transaction, and that .qbo file also got the same error. I spoke with my bank, and they said there shouldn't be a problem. Please help. I'm on Quickbooks 2020 Desktop for Mac. I'm really not interested in upgrading to a new version which requires annual subscription.
I cannot even imagine what you've been through, @Cabbage1. I genuinely understand how important it is to download our bank transactions accurately.
Let me share some information as to why you're experiencing this difficulty. To explain why you were unable to download bank transactions or access the Bank feeds, you have an outdated QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version. Thus, activities are limited to recording purposes only.
I know how hard it is to transition to what we're used to, @Cabbage1. However, you may want to consider purchasing the supported version. The latest version allows limitless activities to enable you to manage your business accurately.
If you ever consider, you can visit this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/.

QBD 2020 is an outdated version and the bank feed feature has disabled. If the bank feed feature is critical for your business, contact me in private. We can offer a workaround to consider.
I'm getting Error 405, unable to connect to my bank for about the last 4 or 5 months... having to enter 3-4 pages of of transactions manually! n I have upgraded Quickbooks Mac Plus 2024 and I'm still not able to get into my online bank. I did this for years but now nothing. I've talked with my bank extensively and there is nothing on their part. I've talked w/ Q/B support and they say it's my bank. I log into my bank online with no problem. This is so so frustrating. I think this problem started when we upgraded from 2022 to 2024. HELP!
I wish you didn't have to encounter the issue this long, @RABInc. I'll put you in touch with our support team to resolve your bank connectivity issues in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac.
I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've performed to resolve the issue. Since it persists, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team. While I understand you've already contacted them, it's best to get in touch again so they can further determine the root cause of the error 405 and raise an investigation if necessary. To do that:
Once resolved, I recommend reconciling your accounts in QBDT Mac monthly to ensure they match your bank statements.
Keep in touch if you need further guidance in connecting your bank account. We'll get back to you right away to continue assisting you. Stay safe.
No, this is the only account that I download my bank statement from. Q/B has said they don't see a problem and that it's the bank. I can't even save a download from my bank statement and import it into Q/B manually. My bank tried helping me for over an hour and ended up saying that Q/B has to help me. So so frustrating!
