Join nowHello @lucie7,
Before we can accomplish your goal for today, may I know the reason why you're unable to add class to your transactions? May I know if there's any message prompt upon attempting to perform the changes in question?
May be a screenshot will help and we would appreciate it. Keep me updated in the comments below. Hope to hear from you as soon as possible. Take care and stay safe!
Hello,
I can not add a class because I do not create the transaction myself. It is created automatically when there is a payment in different currencies.
For example, on the picture attached to this message, you can see that my company received 15 712.11 EUR. When we recorded these payment to the related invoice, an entry of 546.67 USD was created to record the rate difference on this account " 666100 Gain/Loss on exchange rate". I am unable to add a class, even when I try to click on the transaction. By clicking on the amount, QBO sends me on the invoice payment entry (as on the screenshot) and not to the 546.47 USD entry so I am not able to add a class or change the account.
How can I fix that?
Many thanks,
Good morning, @lucie7.
I appreciate the other information you gave us.
However, we're still unable to view your screenshot/attachment because we don't see one to review. Can you provide the screenshot(s) again just by themselves on the thread below?
This will help us determine the best solution for your business. I'll be right around the corner to check back in!
Thanks for providing a screenshot about your concern, @lucie7. I'm here to provide some details about adding class to the transactions in the Gain or Loss on exchange rate account.
Currently, adding class to an entry under the Gain or Loss on exchange rate account is unavailable. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the exchange gain and loss amounts are calculated separately from the source transaction once the payment is applied. That said, you can only assign a class to the invoice and not at the time of payment.
As a workaround, you'll want to move the exchange gain or loss transaction to your desired class through a journal entry. Before doing this, I highly recommend asking for guidance from your accountant to ensure you'll assign them correctly and avoid messing up your books.
For more information on managing classes in QBO, feel free to check this article: Get started with class tracking in QuickBooks Online.
Need to have additional guides in performing your QBO tasks? Feel free to browse this page to find one: QBO Help articles page. This includes a compilation of help articles that you can access or bookmark on your browser.
Please know that I'm always here ready to assist if you have further concerns about adding classes in QBO. I'd also appreciate it if you can add updates about the recommendations. Have a good day ahead and take care.
