How can you input a transaction not involving a bank account?

Use Expense and you can post outflow from Other Asset type accounts.

Credit card charges also do not technically involve bank accounts.

Sales Receipts can post income to Asset accounts other than bank type.

Finally, Journal Entry can post to and from each and every account in your chart of accounts.
