How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hello, John-Schmidt. I understand how you feel when things aren't working the way we wanted to be.

For now, you can only import data to TurboTax by converting QBO first to QBDT. From there, you can import data to TurboTax Business. You can follow the detailed steps in this article: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?.

You may also consider using a third-party application to assist with importing the data that can integrate with QuickBooks. You can find apps here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/.

If you have any other questions or concerns, do let me know. I'm here to help.

That's for sure.  I think they listen, laugh, and don't care at all.  DO NOT get fooled into buying QBDT.

QB (Intuit) doesn't care.  What should be considered is not using ANY Intuit products, especially QBO.  Find an alternative.  We are finally winding ours down and will discontinue soon.  Never again to use software from a company who cares so little for its customers/users.  And, NO I don't think you understand at all.  Its not they way "we want it to be" it's the way it should be.  We cannot even get an actual response from anyone at Intuit that seems to care.  Repeating the same garbage over and over is not helpful.

Future-nonuser - I share the exact same frustrations as you do. Year after year I have returned to this uncaring company and group of untrained "support staff" and have finally had enough. Is there other small business accounting and tax apps/programs you have found?

Can't wait to leave Intuit - it is like finally leaving an abusive relationship.

@gladi8r

You may utilize a bookkeeping app to integrate with QBO to export the TXF file without installing QB Desktop.

I'm not using the online version, the desktop version. I still can't understand why I can't import my company tax information into TurboTax!

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hello @NemesysSoft,

Let me help share how you can import your data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks TurboTax.

Normally, TurboTax for Windows Basic, Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business versions can import directly from the QuickBooks Desktop software with versions 2014-2020. Let's consider the following requirements below:

  • QuickBooks 2014-2020 software is installed on your computer, along with TurboTax
  • QuickBooks data file should be saved to your local drive, not in any network or cloud drive
  • Tax year's financial data in QuickBooks is complete, and that you've assigned tax lines to your accounts
  • During the import, leave QuickBooks running and keep your QuickBooks data file open

Once done, here's how you can transfer your data:

  1. Open your tax return in TurboTax.
  2. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import.
  3. Select From Accounting Software.
  4. Choose QuickBooks.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the transfer.

In addition, here's a couple of articles you can read to learn more about the import:

Lastly, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Help Articles for QuickBooks Desktop.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.

Too bad you took a year to NOT answer my question.  Your answer to show how to import from QB Desktop is not what I asked.

I asked how to get Quickbooks O N L I N E   data into  TURBOTAX BUSINESS Desktop.

I'll share the steps on how you can import your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data into TurboTax Business, @LDBingham.

To import QBO data, you'll have to export it first to QuickBooks Desktop before imported into TurboTax Business. Let guide through the process.

Before exporting, please know that QBO and QBDT are two different platforms. Since the functionality and features aren't the same, you can only export reports and lists.

To export:

  1. Go to Gear, then hit Export Data.
  2. On the Reports tab, set the date range.
  3. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by toggling the slider.
  4. Click Export to Excel.

For non-posting transactions and attachments, please refer to this article: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

After exporting, you can now move your file to Desktop. Here's how:

  1. Download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Download and install QuickBooks Desktop on your computer.
  3. Launch QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Go to File and select Close Company. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.
  5. Navigate back to the browser that QuickBooks Online is open in.
  6. Choose Download tool to download and install the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
  7. Once you download and install QuickBooks Desktop and the migration tool, click Continue.
  8. Follow the steps that'll guide you through the rest.

Check out this article for your reference: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, you can now import your QuickBooks data to Turbo Tax Business. For the step-b-step process, here's a guide: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?

Additionally, feel free to visit this page to learn some tax tips using TurboTax.

If you still have questions or concerns with the migration process, please let me know. I'll around for you. Take care and have a nice weekend ahead.

Thanks for your reply. However, in the Mac desktop version, there is no From Accounting Software in the Import menu. The options I have are From TXF FilesFrom Financial Institution and From itsDeductible Online.

Please, advise.

Hello there, NemesysSoft.

I want to ensure you'll be selecting the right options when converting your data to TurboTax. With that, I'd recommend contacting the TurboTax support team to ensure the process correct and options applied during the process will mess up your data.

Let's go to this link to reach out to them: https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/. Also, you can check out these articles on how to import QuickBooks into Turbo Tax:

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

As has been mentioned many, many times in this thread, QuickBooks Desktop relies on an extremely-outdated and nonsecure version of Internet Explorer, without which it will not function.  The notion of using essentially open code to transmit your financial data would be risible if the issue weren't so critical.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

What an absolutely pathetic customer service situation--literally just posting the same canned how-to on their stupid and dangerous method of bouncing from QBO to QBDT.  With QBSE I was able to file through TurboTax super easy and fast.  I switched to QBO because of all of the weird limitations QBSE put on me like not being able to handle sales tax, but what should be an upgrade really isn't since now I have lost integration with TurboTax (since I refuse to touch QBDT).  For F's sake, it is offering to integrate Square data for me!  I literally dumped Square to use Quickbooks expecting superior integration, and here they are now offering to integrate someone else's software while refusing to integrate their own!  So pathetic.  Along with all of the other little stupid ways they have of manipulating people (still no way to have a PO# on my invoices unless I upgrade to an even more expensive QB that is largely a pointless waste of money for a small operation like mine), I am very eager to completely leave Intuit forever.  C'mon, Quickbooks customer service team, I dare you to post that how-to once again.  Intuit sucks so much.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

TurboTax seems to be able to connect to the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) system to import data which helps users file a tax return but according to comments I see (and this puzzles me greatly) Intuit can't import its own business data from QuickBooks Online? This is mind boggling. They left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

So true. When I decided to move from Quicken Home and Business to QuickBooks Online, I had to go through a such a tedious process of saving data (as a CSV format I think), then open in Excel to review and manipulate cells, and columns so that QuickBooks Online could import the data expenses correctly. DAYS spent in that process to review expenses that had to be all recategorised and reapproved manually. A nightmare. Very frustrating when you think all Intuit products could talk more to each other. And now price subscription is increasing. :(

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Future Non-User,  I have tried for 6 years to get Intuit to allow QBO to send tax info directly to Turbo Tax and they refuse to work with their customers on this.  The fact that they claim they can't connect the two makes me lose complete faith in their company if the software technicians are incapable of such a thing. I am also done with Quickbooks and I am going to start looking for an accounting software that can also file my taxes.  Have you switched yet?  If so what are you using?

@AHMllc

Many options in the market to replace your QBO. But you still need to have an additional tax app.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I am dumping QuickBooks this time. It makes no sense to export data in excel. Then create a desktop version and import the sheets spending hours mapping each sheet and entry and create a company file. All this for importing the file into TurboTax. Maybe QuickBooks finally gets somebody who is knowledgeable about UI's.

You guys need to know that the company-wide abject failure to integrate QBO with TurboTax is not acceptable. This is your own software. the people who buy QB are basically 100% self-employed, yet there is no support for self employed b=people to use QBO data to do their taxes. Its absolutely disgusting business.

"You can SIMPLY download all your quickbooks data to Excel and then buy our desktop software, then completely re-create everything youve ever done in QBO on the desktop system and THEN you can finally import your data into QBDT" is not a solution. It is complete BS and you should be ashamed for even typing it.

completely agree what a waste of money the only reason I purchased quick books was because I thought I would import the data to TurboTax what a waste of time and money and just like this person said it is said that it is owned by the same company and they don't have a feature to do this,

I'm promptly ending my use of quickbooks thanks to this lovely mess.  This sort of clashing is exactly what forces people to 'accidentally' purchase extras and not end free trials in time.   You cant transfer crap without downloading the desktop version and converting.

Is this known defect fixed or is Intuit continuing to ignore their customers? I subscribed to Quickbooks Online and paid for the annual fee already with the MAIN goal of importing this data into Turbotax Business. If you haven't provided a solution by now, it's clear that you never will and I promise I will be canceling my Online account after this.

There are ZERO excuses you can give as to why you haven't fixed this expect corporate greed.
