But before we start, may I know if you're a contractor or an employer? If you're a contractor, you'll ask your employer to invite you to fill out your W-9. If you already have a QuickBooks Self-Employed account, tell them to send the invite to the email address you use to sign in. Otherwise, you can create a limited QBSE account just for your forms. Once you're invited, you can fill out your W-9.
- Open the invite email and select the link.
- If you already have a QuickBooks Self-Employed account, select Sign in. Or, follow the steps to create a limited QuickBooks Self-Employed account. This account has limited features: you can fill out your W-9, submit it, and view your 1099-MISC
- Go to the Clients tab.
- Follow the steps to fill out and submit your W-9.
On the other hand, if you're an employer, you can invite your contractor to complete their profile and submit a signed W-9 online anytime. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Go to Payroll select Contractors or Contractors and select Contractors.
- Select Add a contractor.
- Enter the contractor’s name and email in the fields provided, then select Add contractor. We’ll send your contractor an email in real-time. The contractor’s profile will be saved in both the Contractors tab and the Vendors tab.
