Have you ever experienced, when using a web connect import from the bank of one months bank statement transactions, random transactions go missing (as in do not make it onto the register) even though you assign them an account and approve them? This happens to me EVERY SINGLE TIME I use the web connect import feature and no one at customer support can help or understands what is happening. I have even shown them via screen share that it occurs. It is so frustrating.

First of all, I appreciated the effort of following the steps provided by my colleague's about importing bank transactions and contacting to our phone support.

 

I've checked on my resources and found out that no other users are having a problem with importing bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. I would also appreciate it if you can tell us what specific bank you're using so we can determine and check if there's an ongoing issue with the bank.

 

Meanwhile, if you're having a problem with using WebConnect on importing transactions from your bank. Please refer some common issues with Web Connect:

 

  • “QuickBooks found an error. We can’t read the file {Your financial institution} sent.”
  • "An error occurred while processing your online banking data."
  • "Your data was not imported into QuickBooks."
  • "QuickBooks is unable to verify the Financial Institution information for this download."
  • QuickBooks seems stuck and asks you to select a new or existing account when you try to download.

 

Once done checking the cause of the error of WebConnectn and your able to fix it. You can now reimport the missing transactions.

Yes, there are a couple of ways you can do this by converting the Excel or CSV file (opened in Excel) to another file format.

 

To convert it to an .OFX/.QBO file for import using bank feeds, use our BRC Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter 

 

To convert it to an IIF file to import directly into your bank (or credit card) registers, use our BRC IIF Transaction Creator

This is ridiculous....my clients who use QB Online version can upload bank transactions via CSV easy as peasy...ridiculous that my clients who use the Desktop version (my preference) can not....UGH!

But guess what? If you purchased the online QB Monthly subscription, you'd be able to do upload CSV/Exel files to your hearts content.....UGH!  I'm starting to DISLIKE Intuit....(I almost said another word, but i didn't want to get banned)

I checked out the 3rd party apps and they will definitely do the trick...just frustrated though that I will have to shell out $100 for something I'll only need once and for only 491 transactions ($100 is worth manually inputting them individually though...lol)

 

Before purchasing, I thought I would contact QB support via chat to see if I could get it to work with their "New and Updated IIF Importer Toolkit for QB Pro Desktop 2019"....although all the links just went in circles and there was NEVER a link to download it.  After getting disconnected 3x from their chats while the agent "verified my info" (that I initially had to input to initiate the chat session i.e. license #, name, etc.), the chat session just dropped.  Finally on the 4th attempt, the agent basically said "sorry, you can only do that in the online version".

 

I get it, Intuit wants to make $$$ and they make a TON more on monthly subscriptions compared to those of us who actually need and utilize the full functionality of the desktop version.  Honestly, I can't stand the Online version and advise my client's against going that route as it will end up costing them more $$ in the long run.  

 

I've have been a loyal Intuit/QB/TurboTax user for 21 years now and I think it is time to explore what else is out there.  Any suggestions?

WOW!  This is a stupid problem to have.  My account prefers quickbooks but I'm on the verge of switching to something from this century and paying more in prep.  Get with it intuit!

Seriously? I have three columns of data - Name, Date and Amount. And QB is incapable of importing a file with 3 simple pieces of data. It seems like every time I need to do something even slightly off the beaten path, QB says it's a no go. How frustrating.

I use a third party program to convert the file ...

Very easy ... using a program to convert the Quicken file to a QBO file (type of OFX cleaner).

I am not sure if I am allowed to disclose the name of the program ... 

I believe it is worth the extra cost.

You attached an article how to import/export csv file but that article only lets you download an exe file which is a Windows file, but you replied to person who was using a Mac. Please update the article.

I don't know why this works BUT...for Quicken .qfx files, simply download the .qfx file...open with Notepad...scroll down to where you see  "<INTU.BID>4411" (the number 4411 may be different depending on the bank), change the 4 digit number to 3000. Now save the document and change the extension to .qbo and voila! It uploads as a QBO file!

After all these months no answer on this except to buy a 3rd party converter.  It would be good to have some guidance from intuit.

Yep - I just found out Discover card no longer will create quickbook files.  This is a big issue for me

Hello! I wanted to reply in this chain because I found what I was looking for somewhere else and I believe that this will help in importing bank transactions using excel & Batch transactions.

In my case, I had put a bunch of transactions in a wrong account and was going to have to reenter them all. That was too daunting of a task so I started looking to find out how to import transactions from a CSV file. Some even recommended creating an IIF (from their software that you have to purchase) or converting from IIF to QBO. All not needed.

It didn't make sense to me that we couldn't just import line items into QuickBooks--however I wasn't looking at it the right way. What I needed to do was get the things in the columns of the spreadsheet into QuickBooks not necessarily the transactions as a whole themselves. (so you do have to have some understanding of Excel and the ability to move columns around to do this--so the xls info matches  QuickBooks colums)

 The only thing that this solution doesn't provide for is any scanned attachments that you might have. What I ended up doing was getting the transactions in there and then individually deleting the old ones as I found the attached documents in the document center to re add into the new transaction. (if this is a brand new set of transactions this won’t apply to you)  While it was still a bit daunting it was way less than having to manually enter all of every element of these transactions individually.

I use QBDT, and found this link for just copying from the Excel sheet into a transaction table. The link discusses using the Accounting Version (not necessary). I found the same thing under

“Company” > Batch Enter Transactions. The table comes up, you paste and move on.

The only Gotcha: (other than reassigning the attachments through Document Center)

Make sure your data in the column for Accounts exactly matches the ones in QBDT (I had some sub accounts and it has to be exact, even to match the spaces—Automobile Expense:Repair  instead of Automobile Expense: Repair)

If you paste your information in and get errors, it is not the end of the world, see what needs changing, clear the Batch Enter table, change it in the spreadsheet, and paste again! When happy with the results, enter the transactions!

When I go to find my Excel file to open it and bring it into my QB account, it is not recognized (not there).  To recap, I have desktop 2016 and would like to import bank transactions from my bank which does not offer bank feeds.  Can I do this with excel file, CVS file, or Open Finacial Exchange file? Or, impossible as it seems.

I can help share some info about why it has only downloaded the past (3) months' transactions, slidermama.

 

It depends on your financial institution on how far back you can download transactions. 

 

To bring in beyond 90 days' worth of transactions, follow the steps below to import your bank transactions to QuickBooks if your FI supports WebConnect (.QBO) file.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu and choose Utilities.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Select Web Connect Files.
  4. Choose the QBO file, then click Open.
  5. When prompted to choose a bank account, select Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account is already set up or Create a new QuickBooks account if it's not yet added.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. If data has been successfully downloaded, tap OK.

 

You may also consider looking for a third-party converter app that lets you do the tasks. Check our QuickBooks App store and browse for an app that suits your business needs.

 

Once transactions are in, you can start reconciling your account to ensure they are updated.

You are REQUIRED to have a BUSINESS CHECKING to enable QUICKBOOKS files to download to your checking.  I have checked into this and am told the same thing from every bank.  This program is THE WORST program I have ever seen.  I work with alot of companies and they are either dropping them or using EXCEL to build their buisness program.  I have a MAC and it has more problems than the US at this point.  We have decided to go back to manual book keeping due to it being overpriced and nothing short of a disasterous program.  Banks can't work with it.
