how to move banking transactions to the credit card register?

Transferring your bank transactions to your credit card register without deleting them can be done in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise, Sawas25. I'm here to fill in more information and provide a guided solution.

In QBDT, you can manually re-create the bank transactions as credit card charges to transfer them to the desired credit card register. This way, they'll be in your desired account without deleting them. To do so, kindly follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QBDT company file.
  2. Go to Banking, then select Enter Credit Card Charges.
  3. In the Credit Card dropdown, choose your desired account.
  4. Configure the form according to your purchase/charge information.
  5. Once done, click Save & Close.

After that, I recommend reviewing your credit card register to confirm all transactions are documented. Further guidance regarding this topic can be found in this article: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, I'll provide you with this material to assist you when reconciling your QBDT accounts. This process helps you maintain accuracy between your books and bank or credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Click the Reply button if you require additional help configuring your bank transactions in QBDT. I'll be here to aid at any time. Have a great day ahead!

how to move banking transactions to the credit card register?

Thanks Irene but RCV says otherwise, see their Response below.

I see what you mean though but that would change the account from the credit card to bank account but it would lose the description of what the expense is which of course we need. I just cant see anyway to take the expense from the credit card and move it to the bank account register. Yes can move the transaction to the credit card in your description thank you but dont see how can move the whole transaction with the expense description too. Very unfortunate and hope they make a change soon to allow this, sure it is a common error. Thanks for the help though Irene and thanks RCV!

We've got some details to share on how QuickBooks Desktop works when moving credit card transactions to the bank account register, Sawas25.

The option to directly move credit card transactions into a bank register in QuickBooks Desktop is unavailable. The only way is to delete the credit card activity and re-create the transactions as Checks in the bank account. Let's delete the credit card transactions by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate and open your credit card account register by double-clicking on the account name.
  3. Identify the credit card transactions you want to move to the bank account register.
  4. Delete each transaction:
    • Right-click on the transaction and select Delete Credit Card Charge.
    • Confirm the deletion of each transaction.

Then, recreate the entries as checks in the bank account register. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select Write Checks.
  2. In the Bank Account field, choose the bank account you want to use.
  3. Enter the details of the transaction in the check:
    • Pay to the Order of: Enter the payee's name.
    • Date: Set the date of the original credit card transaction.
    • Amount: Enter the transaction amount.
    • Expense Account: Select the same expense account used in the original credit card transaction.
    • Memo: Optionally add a note indicating the nature of the transaction for clarity.
  4. Press Save and Close each transaction.

Once done, we can verify the transactions in the bank account register. Let me guide you on how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate and open your bank account register by double-clicking on the account name.
  3. Ensure all transactions have been re-created correctly in the bank account register.

By following these steps, we can effectively move your credit card transactions into your bank account register. This ensures your financial records remain accurate in QuickBooks Desktop.

how to move banking transactions to the credit card register?

@sawas25  Unfortunately, QB does not have many instances where you can easily change things from one type of thing to another type of thing.

It'll just be elbow grease here, I'm afraid. There is no way to directly change a banking transaction into a credit card transaction.

If you don't mind using up a bit of paper, may be worth your while to print a custom detail report with a Memo column to capture your expense descriptions, use that to make sure you recreate the erroneously classified transactions with the necessary details.

Feel free to ignore the staff answers. @Irene R  said the same thing @RCV  said, only worse.
